He wouldn't know he has a partner until it's been months and you've set up a fancy dinner at your place; he swiftly tries to end his life because of the embarrassment while you fight him away from a knife or noose
He'd definitely meet you because of his interest in cats; whether that be a cafe, feeding/housing strays, or even volunteering at a shelter
When you're openly kind to him, and persistently so after he's obviously fucked up like twenty different things, he falls hard and fast. I think he's a lover, but buries it down under all that angst to try and keep from getting hurt
He will never offer you or ask for anything. He just does, or waits for you to vocalize a want or need
By does, though, I want it very clear that I mean he will hold his hand out, fingers splayed, but not take your hand. Everything is always up to you in the end, he has no back bone

When you give in and give him a chance, he pales like he's seen a ghost. You mean he really has a shot? The pressure will kill him, the stakes too high. He has vertigo
He's kind of a douche, but the moment you tell him, seriously, to knock something off? He says yes ma'am with a little salute, and that joke is retired forever
He adores going on fun, cliche dates like skating or arcades or hikes. As long as it's doing, he's down. Movies and the like bore him, but if it's a home movie night, he'll agree; you just have to settle for being a stim toy
Arcades, of course, are like gambling. Playing games to earn tickets and show off prizes, but then there's also the competitive games, and those might be his favorite. He's a sore loser and a mean winner, but as long as he's not hurting your feelings, it's enjoyable for both
He's very much a fan of physical affection, needs a hand on you at all times in all places. Of course, you often have to remind him what is appropriate touch for the occasion, but his immediate want is actually rather tame, surprisingly. Every day, millions of people get up and devote themselves to things that can and will kill them by their nature. Things they can't touch or show kindness to. Things they can't go near. Things that are wholly incapable of loving them back.
And they do it because they love them.
Everything dangerous, everything poisonous, everything 'useless'- absolutely everything has someone, often many thousands of people, who loves them exactly as they are, without expectation that their affection will be returned.
It is alright for anything, even you, to not belong to anyone, to not be useful, to be frightening and dangerous and not adhere to any standard of success.
