We recently launched major improvements to our site. Now, any of our customers can list their equipment for rent through our platform. We'll make sure the entire process is seamless and we'll be monitoring all rental requests to keep our community safe.

You can now rent from others in the community. We need to offer more selection so we're enlisting an army of renters just like you.

Canon EF 135mm f/2L USM Review

I’ve used the Canon EF 135mm f/2L USM lens to film a variety of subjects at a distance. I have used it to film nature, portraits, and a lot of sports. The clarity of the lens is unreal compared to many other lenses at 135mm. The still images and video it produces are extremely sharp. Holding the lens in your hand you can tell that it is very durable and well-built; compact, but heavy duty. The glass on the lens is top quality and really thick. It is a Canon L series lens and if you have used any of the other L series lenses you know that this lens will not let you down. It is a perfect fit in anyone’s camera bag.

I would strongly recommend renting the Canon 135mm f/2L USM lens from SplitGear. It is an amazing deal if you only need to use this lens for a day or two and get some great shots for your next project. I plan to buy one soon. But for now renting it from SplitGear.com is perfect.

We recently picked up two amazing cases from Pelican.

The first case - the 1510 Carry-on case - is fantastic. The key for us is that we don't have to check our gear under the airplane. You can fit two camera bodies a few lenses and a flash in here. It does fill up quickly so be sure to have another bag available if needed. Let us know if you'd like to try it out with a rental and we'll put it up on our site!

We also purchased a much larger case - the 1630 case. By volume, this case is about 5x larger. You can fit tons of gear in it. It's hard to tell from the pictures but the 1630 case definitely gives you plenty of room.

I wanted to provide some quick details on the things we're doing each day to better serve our customers.

Nathan and I worked on streamlining our operations in the morning. We got together at our new office space in Beehive Baltimore and made some solid progress. I'll have more details about our new location shortly.

We then attended CrowdPitch at 6PM in Federal Hill to meet fellow Baltimore entrepreneurs and investors. The event was a blast. A big thanks to FundingUniverse and our host Monica Beeman for doing such a wonderful job.

After the event we caught up with Michael at PopcornCalendar. Michael is a local programer and is great to think through complex problems with. Over the span of a few hours we were able to hone in on the key requirements of a killer rental application.

We just received our first gear donation and we're thrilled!

The gear was shipped to us from our friend Tobe who couldn't stand watching his old camera collect dust much longer. Tobe hooked us up with an old Nikon N80 film slr camera, two solid lenses and a Lowepro camera bag! We're not yet sure what to do with the film camera but the lenses will allow us to add a third Digital SLR Start Kit.

We're on to something BIG at SplitGear. How many people have stuff lying around that goes unused for months? Or how about stuff you'll never use again like an old film camera? We think sharing, swapping, and renting will be a huge force over the next decade. Check out new sites like Swap.com and RelayRides.com to give you a better sense for what like-minded entrepreneurs are doing.

iPads rock - try one from us! This morning we're shipping out one of our first few iPad rentals. It comes in the Apple box - just like you bought it brand new - and we even throw in an Apple case.

If you've never used an iPad before you should definitely give it a try. At SplitGear, we think multi-touch based computing is here to stay. The iPad is just the beginning - in no time at all we'll be able to edit photos and do other "high-end desktop tasks" on our tablet or multi-touch computers.

Need an iPad tomorrow? We'll upgrade you to overnight shipping for FREE with a two week or longer rental. If you haven't already noticed the trend, we really care deeply about our customers. We truly don't understand unhelpful companies. What is up with that?!?!

We will never stop adding gear for our customers. When new gear comes out from the big names in the business such as Canon or Nikon be sure to check with us to get the first few rentals. Photokina is just around the corner (starting September 21) and we're looking forward to adding some awesome new gear.

For now, having another Canon 5D Mark II means more availability for you, our customers. We're also very excited about the addition of an excellent mid-rage zoom lens from Canon with image stabilization, the 24-105 f/4 L IS. We'll be sure to let you know what we think once we get our hands on it.
