A lot of people are going around assuming that this official artwork is racist because Marina’s skin is lighter in it. I don’t claim to know about lighting or watercolors or all that other jazz, but seriously? You think this is racism?

Racism is the belief that one race is superior to the other, and it’s not having one single tiny trivial piece of artwork that portrays a character a bit differently.

I know people will be like “you’re defending racism blah blah blah” but I’m really not. I am merely stating that everyone who thinks this is racist or that nintendo is racist is very likely to be completely wrong. I am not racist in the slightest. I’m just worried about the fact that some people take every little detail way too seriously.

Trust me when I say that you shouldn’t even bother trying to prove the overreactors wrong, because people are gonna want to argue and keep making a mountain out of a molehill, and that’s honestly kinda childish.

ART DOES NOT HAVE TO PERFECTLY REFLECT THE SOURCE MATERIAL. THIS IS NOT GOING TO BE A HUGE RECURRING ISSUE. IT’S JUST NOT.

JUST BECAUSE IT KINDA SEEMS RACIST IN YOUR MIND DOESN’T MEAN IT IS RACIST.

JUST BECAUSE A PIECE OF ARTWORK DOESN’T FIT YOUR EXACT DESIRES FOR REPRESENTING THE SOURCE MATERIAL DOESN’T MEAN YOU HAVE TO MAKE A BIG DEAL OUT OF IT.

If you truly believe that this artwork is super racist and intentionally so, and that it’s a humongous problem that’s gonna persist for the rest of eternity, I don’t know what else to say.
