Transfem Luffy is making me lose my mind right now so here are some of my thoughts on it.
Luffy, who is entirely like canon Luffy up until time-skip, who comes back to Sabaody with shoulder blade length hair that’s tied into pigtails. She has her shirt unbuttoned just like canon but she’s wearing a denim skirt that’s shorter than her usual shorts.
The crew doesn’t really know what to say about it, and when one of them eventually asks, Luffy just smiles at them and goes “I decided I wanted to be a girl!” And nothing else. The crew is obviously all very supportive, but all have very different reactions nonetheless.
Zoro is just sitting there staring at her, trying to make sense of the change while also realizing that he still finds her attractive. Not that he really minds, sure, he’d only had interest in guys up until that point but it was Luffy, and nothing Luffy did followed any rules. Eventually he just smirks and moves on, he treats Luffy the exact same way he did pre-timeskip.
Nami, the Thousand Sunny’s resident lesbian, is sitting there in complete shock at the new information. She had expected lots of changes in Luffy’s character upon reunion, but this was certainly not one of them. The image of Nami dealing with nosebleeds when interacting with Luffy just like Sanji does is hilarious to me. She still treats her captain much like she did before (because Luffy being a boy wasn’t her problem, it was that she was a dumbass), but it’s obvious that something has shifted.
Usopp is one of the ones that takes to the change like a fish to water. He spends a minute or two gawking at her and then they go back to their scheduled dumbassery. Usopp does make little accessories for her later on though, usually little beetle clips or other kinds of jewelry that she loves to collect.
Sanji, on the other hand… he starts tweaking at this change. Spends ATLEAST an hour crying on the deck of the Sunny thinking of all the times he’s hit or kicked her, everytime he stops crying he’ll look up and see her again and the waterworks will start back up. After he gets over that he treats her the exact way he treats the other girls, Luffy is perfectly content with this since Sanji will actually make food whenever she asks. Sanji plus the fact that Luffy refuses to button up her shirt is a very bad combo. Thanks to whatever hormones Boa (or someone else, who knows…) found, Luffy developed atleast a little in the chest area, chopper is seriously worried that Sanji’s going to drop dead one of these days as a result.
Chopper takes it about the same way as Usopp does, the only difference is that he pulls Luffy to the side ands asks a few questions for his medical charts. The second he’s done with that, the three of them are back to chasing eachother around the deck and getting in everyone else’s way.
Robin doesn’t even blink at the reveal, and some of the straw hats could swear that she had a knowing expression on her face when Luffy told them (they would be correct, Robin had definetly sensed something pre-timeskip, but it wasn’t her place to say anything.) only notable change in her behavior towards Luffy is the pronoun change, and the fact that she occasionally gives her old clothes that she doesn’t wear anymore.
Franky also doesn’t care once the shock wears off. Simply goes about calling Luffy ‘sis’ instead of his usual ‘bro’
Brook, who congratulates her and tells her she looks lovely, and gets one syllable into his usual panties question only to get attacked from both sides by Nami and Sanji. Same relationship with Luffy as canon.
Jinbe, who didn’t know Luffy for long before timeskip, simply congratulates her while also trying to get used to the fact that the nine crackheads infront of him are his future crew.
I also love the idea of people outside of the Straw Hats finding out through the newspaper or her updated bounty poster.
Dragon, who’s always the first one to get his hands on newspapers due to both the RA and his need to keep up with his son, being dumbfounded at Luffy’s updated bounty poster. It lasts for a minute before her poster gets hung up right next to every other newspaper she’s ever been in that he personally cut out and hung up on his wall.
Sabo, who also keeps an eye out for mentions of Luffy in the newspaper, sees her new bounty poster and immediately bursting into tears and tells every person he sees about it. He’s spends atleast the next week bragging to anyone he can (including the enemies that have the misfortune of fighting him) about how awesome his little sister is.
Shanks gets the bounty poster a few days after its publications and has a reaction very similar to Sabo. The red hair pirates throw a whole feast for both Luffy’s return and her transition. Beckman is forced to listen to Shanks’ drunken ramblings about how proud he is of his daughter(s, because he will always think of Uta when talking about Luffy, his two daughters that he loves more than anything.)
This is the first post I’ve made about Tfem Luffy, but it is (hopefully) far from the last. I love her so much and she’s taking up so much of my brain right now.
