An open statement
I’m so done with people angrily yelling that the prices in my store are more expensive than that of a franchise market. So this is the statement I’ve angrily repeated to myself while maintaining a smile and resisting the urge to spit out what’s on my mind.Â
Do you think as a small business, we arbitrarily spit out a figure that satisfies us for the same bottle of alcohol that the local Ralphs, Vons, Walgreens, etc. advertises?Â
Did you know that the aforementioned supermarkets sell booze for less than the wholesaler at which I am leaglaly obligated to obtain my wares from.
You chose to walk into a liquor store, not a large, supermarket with hundreds of locations statewide. They have the ability to purchase booze by the pallet—which has the capacity to carry at least 40 cases of alcohol—and get volume discounts for their merchandise I as a small business can only see in my dreams. To come into my store and hold my prices to the prices of a business that has more than just volume discounts as a competitive advantage is an insult.
And don’t you dare bring up the prices at Costco. Do your research, Costco is a WHOLESALE. Even the aforementioned supermarkets have difficulty selling wines and spirits at the prices a wholesale such as Costco does.
