Anyway a bit late to the party but here's my piece for Shane's birthday, with the most delightful drawing by @frienduccine 💕

Jas is very thorough, following the letters Miss Penny had so nicely put on paper. Smiling cheeks already covered in flour. Eggs from the hens, milk from the cows. "I hope he'll like it." she whisks, furrowed brows. "He'll love every crumb." Marnie reassures, picking eggshells from the stained floor.

Expectant eyes on the oven door, swirls of vanilla in the kitchen, proud aunt in the dishes. The cake rises with Jas' little heart. "I get to write on it!", frosting on her fingers. "Let it cool down first." flour on her skirt. Excitement is too much! The ticking clock constantly reminds her she'll give him his wishes.

'Happy Birthday Uncle Shane' The frosting haphazardly spells among the sugary flowers. "Thank you little chicken.", barely hidden sob. "She made it herself." excited first bites. "What do you think?" bright eyes, good job. Shared glances and crooked smiles. Marnie hides the frosting in her apron, Shane has more willpower.

It really didn't matter, salt replaced sugar, letters bitter and sour, crunch of forgotten shells, unknown interesting flavors, really who could tell, who could refuse her treat, when her smile is so sweet.
