A piece of advice that gets circled around indie author communities is getting your own website. Hosting is expensive, i know, but if all of your business details are on a 3rd party, that 3rd party 1) decides who can access it (like making an ig account necessary to see posts) 2) who gets to see your content (like tiktok choosing who sees your videos) 3) has all the data of your fans (so if you, say, drop fb you no longer can access many of those fans because many won't jump to a new account). But a website, and a customer database you own like an email list, keeps control of your business in your hands.

Have a social media account, but have something else too.

looking for animal references on image searches has always kind of sucked but it's much worse after AI image generation technology has begun to actually past muster, which is why i always just go straight to inaturalist. can't recommend this highly enough. you get to both find out about niche species you've never even heard of and also see some really good photographs like this one
