I think there's probably a moral element to doomerism where it's not just that they think that society is doomed, they think that it deserves to be doomed for its decadent and sinful ways, and they don't like the idea that it might somehow escape justice.

I think what annoys me about countries like the USA and Russia is that they can't just have internal problems, they need to make it everyone else's problem as well. "Oh, boo-hoo we're a declining empire and we need militarism to reinforce our culturally ingrained sense of masculinity" yeah, fuck off. Get over it.

hey yall know that reclaiming slurs doesnt mean using the slurs against people as slurs right? like when normal people say "reclaiming slurs" what we mean is taking away the power of the slurs by using them for yourself or your loved ones who reclaim it so when youre called a slur your brain goes to "oh, all my friends!" and it doesnt sting so bad, we're not saying to just call people slurs because youre a bigot whos hiding behind your identity

the emphasis on mental health services above things like reliable access to food and housing as a means to curve chronic homelessness is an attempt to sidestep the core issue by hoping that people facing the constant violence of being unhoused can simply bootstrap their way into better circumstances (or at least being less evidently homeless in public), but what's especially jokerfying is when you see exactly how even people who do it "right" are being set up to fail. housed people who work shitty minimum wage jobs get depressed. housed people spend their off time doing recreational drugs as a way to unwind after a long day. housed people who work full time can still barely make rent. what lies at the end of getting clean is a pressure cooker of forces cornering people back into poverty, mental illness and addiction. it's affirming in a way to know that no matter how many institutions wax about compassion and concern, "gaslight yourself into thinking everything is fine" is still the advice that everyone gets from the top down.

recently saw a comment section full of people, primarily women, talking about loving living with their best friend and being sad about having to live separately one day. some people talking about missing living with their best friend, some talking about “getting” to live with their best friend “until” they find partners. saw one person mention that moving out to move in with a partner felt like a divorce. it makes me so genuinely sad… all these people recognizing the joy they can find living outside the norm, letting themself live with a friend instead of a romantic partner, but still feeling like they have to live with a spouse eventually. like it’s not even a decision, just an inevitability.

similarly, it makes me sad when someone shares their happiness from living with a friend with others and the biggest response is people insisting/assuming they must have a secret unrecognized romantic connection. just taking over a moment of joy to insist they’re wrong about their own life and feelings; all to reinforce the lifestyle everyone is already expected to conform to eventually…

the stingrays at the touch tank just now were acting pretty cautious around the people reaching in, getting really close but staying juuuust too far for anyone to touch, and this ten year old boy in a fnaf tshirt told me, exasperated, "the stingrays are ragebaiting us!!"
