Much like in the 616 Hobie’s father died before he was born, and his mother was an alcoholic who, while she tried her best, was not really capable of raising him or his siblings. Most parental duties fell on his brother Abe, whose protectiveness caused him to be pretty hard on him. They eventually had a falling out, causing Hobie to leave home. They’ve since reconnected and buried the hatchet, but Hobie still feels the need to stay independent from him.
