Sensational Spider-Man: Self-Improvement #1 - “Burn Job” (2019)

Here’s fake/pretend relationship spideytorch, where Peter has to pose as Johnny’s boyfriend to a fashion gala and tries his best to look presentable but he doesn’t know shit about fashion (and has no budget for it anyway), while Johnny goes full “queer man in faux fur with a 30-carat diamant engagement ring”. They’re looking for a villain stealing jewelry or something like that, not life-threatening, just fun.

Nobody knows that Peter is Spiderman but Johnny’s famous af so pretty much everybody is trying to know who is he and how, in all hell, he’s managed to snatch Johnny the biggest flirt in all NY? Johnny speaks of falling in love at first sight and the Storm family having a thing for nerdy men, while Peter is going full identity crisis because? Johnny is way too confortable?? pretending to love him? 

The evening goes on and they pretend to drink so Johnny continues to pretend being so in love he cannot look at anything but Peter’s lovely brown eyes and Peter mocks him everytime, and it’s cute from an external point of view. But to Peter? It feels kinda wrong, ‘cause he wished Johnny wouldn’t treat the idea of them together as a joke? even tho they will never be a thing? 

Spoilers alert; Johnny’s been in love forever with Peter, but Peter was just too insecure to get the hints. They catch the villains, they celebrate, they kiss in a dark alley, a paparazzi gets a photo of them kissing and thinks Johnny is cheating on Peter with Spiderman. All’s well in the bestest of world! 

“I know that it’s quite useless now because of- of everything that happened but… well,” he extended his hand like offering a handshake, “My name is Peter Park-mmmpf!”
