Miniature by Penny Thomson
What do you feel are the most under-utilized traits that people forget when designing fly based monsters?
For one, thereâs the antenna pit in the middle of their face that looks just like a big, triangular skeleton nose.

For another, they typically have two opposing rows of bristles along the top of their head, which looks amazingly like âlacesâ or âstitches,â like the top of their head is a corset or maybe a wrestling mask.
The area between those hairs actually inflates like a balloon when theyâre pushing out of their pupa, it works like a hammer and then it hardens and the âcorset hairsâ are left!
Finally, when a flyâs feeding tube is pulled in (something fly monsters never really show at all, even) it looks like cartoon Peter Lorre.
Sorry if some images are broken because tumblr suddenly likes to do that for no reason with no pattern
