One of the most amazing things when driving through the central valley of California is how flat is it. Some would complain. But rise up, and you have a whole new perspective...of how it is (laser-leveled rice paddies), how it was (one ginormous seasonal wetland), and how it could be (something inbetwixt???).

A massive flock of white pelicans, along with thousands of other birds, enjoyed flooded rice paddies in the central valley today.
