im sure someone who’s. better educated than me. can weigh in here w more insight n context n etc. but i really really think the trump treatment of cuba will go down in history as particularly, unnecessarily, cruel. the old man is stuck in a cold war that ended decades ago. hes starving a country that poses no threat just because he can. and bragging about the desire for regime change, talking about it would be a “great honor” to be the president who “takes cuba.” entire nation running out of oil, cant generate electricity, cant pump water, cant function. because this old man has committed to starving them.

This cannot just be attributed to the whims of Trump. This is a dangerous error not just because we must always oppose great man theory but because in order to be able to effectively counter this we must understand the true political motivations. The US has been mercilessly trying to crush Cuba since 1959, not out of some irrational hatred or predisposed Cold-War Mindset but because any success of socialism threatens them. Cuba, even in its tiny capacity, undermines US imperialism. Every patient in the imperial periphery treated by Cuban doctors is one less avenue for the proliferation of US 'aid' programmes, one less export for US medical patents. Every success of the Cuban system is another crack in the legitimacy of bourgeois rule. Every one of the ten million people in Cuba is a person who cannot be subjugated into a wage slave of empire. Even Obama, by far one of the best US presidents when it came to Cuba, failed to meaningfully and lastingly undo any of the infrastructure the US has built up to suppress Cuba. And it is precisely that infrastructure, those laws and sanctions and levers of international control, that Trump is now using. Simply removing him from power will not suffice. Every US government for the past sixty seven years has been loading the gun; Trump is simply firing it.

if youre in the US (especially the northeast + michigan) i would avoid bagged salads/greens and generally wash your produce very thoroughly unless you want the diarrhea parasite

also note this is a PARASITIC infection. most diarrhea-causing pathogens you expect to contaminate your greens are bacteria (e.g. e. coli and salmonella), which are a different domain of organism altogether. cyclospora is a protozoan, which is bigger and more complicated than a bacteria (for reference, malaria is also caused by a protozoan). bacterial diarrhea can be dangerous, but you might also expect to weather it and survive unscathed. do NOT fuck with PARASITIC contamination. you should be scared of this one!
