daisy ursula hookum was born esther jerusha anthony to a devout catholic couple. they were the eighth child born to the family, and although they believed the lord wouldn’t given them more than they could handle, their small three bedroom home was bursting at the seams. things were tense in the anthony home, and they got even worse whenever baby esther began to show signs of magic, and her parents didn’t know what to do. while they were sure it was signs of possession, or something more nefarious, their mother’s brother-in-law, raphael hookum, a squib unbeknownst to them, recognized it for what the signs for what they were - magic. trying to avoid an incident with the church, or with his family, raphael offered a solution to the overloaded family - giving baby esther to his childless brother and his wife. scared for the souls of their children, and already pressed beyond their means, they agreed, and esther jerusha anthony became daisy ursula hookum.

they were raised in a wizarding household, balathazar and amaryllis both being halfbloods who were from long lines of magical lineage, and although there were more than their fair share of muggleborns, she only had limited interactions with the muggle world, usually in the form of visits to their uncle raphael.

they weren’t an only child - no, they were joined by several other siblings, all named after flora and although they were all from different backgrounds, circumstances, and experiences, they were a family - and that was all that really mattered

they have identified as nonbinary from the summer before their second year. they never felt that they were a girl, the world always felt wrong in their mouth. they didn’t mind dresses, or hair ribbons, but they never felt like the picture ever felt quiet right. it was only after the age of eleven that they finally spoke up, clarifying their position, and fiercely defending it at any point.

they don’t mind going by female pronouns, as long as it is not out of a place of malice. however, they do not, and will never, respond to terms such as miss, lady, ma’am, girl etc.  ( witch is a notable exception )

their childhood was spent in the fields by her home, and it was there they earned their love for of nature. their mother was always extremely involved in gardening, and caring for the local creatures, and daisy followed in her footsteps. it sparked a fascination in science in general, and as they grew older, it never went away. they enjoy doing experiments, social and otherwise, all while caring for plants and animals on the side.

while experiments got them in trouble in their first few years of hogwarts ( and cost them their eyebrows on one occasion ), they got their act together in order to protect their place on the quidditch pitch

they only met their biological parents once after their adoption- on a solo trip to their uncle raphael’s when they unexpectedly arrived for a visit over the winter holiday in sixth year. they were overwhelmed by these zealots, calling them a name they didn’t know, and calling them their daughter. the entire experience put daisy off of visiting them any time after that, and for a period of years, uncle raphael came and visited them at their home

while entirely enthralled in the studies of herbology, and magical creatures, is a strange twist daisy is expecting to specialize in photography. as a good scientist, they likes to record their projects, including photographing them. they also like to take pictures of just about anything else, and being able to do so well seems like a dream come true.

they can be an air head, oblivious to some of the more subtle nuances of situations, but they do have a heart of gold, and love those close to them ferociously.

they tend to spread themselves too thin, over-ambition and hyper fixation one of their major flaws, but when they dedicate themselves to something, they do it to the best of their ability: whether it be quidditch, gardening, or simply a friendship. 

they have a record collection that features a mix of muggleborn musicians and wizard alike

they have a rat named salazar slytherat, sal for short. he primarily lives at home when they are at hogwarts, but they have snuck him to school with her more than once.
