other details that affect how expressions look

Eyes: I draw huge and tall eyes LOL (i'm talking about how I do irises and pupils), so my art often looks cute & more vulnerable to people because big eyes makes things look cuter, right? Therefore, smaller eyes can make things look more scary, tense, serious, etc so I suggest looking at different sad expressions (for Sonic, but this can apply to anything really) to observe what kind of sad expression is conveyed and how the size of the eyes affect the vibe it gives off! I included this in my small drawings above to show how different sizes of the eye can look. Adding other details like small lines to the edges of the iris, a line striking through it, etc can also change the expression!

the amount of extra detail under the eyes: adding other details can also help convey sadness & the different types too :0 you know how we add dark circles under eyes to make characters look more tired? well we can also do that for sad expressions adding stress lines/wrinkles under their eyes to give a tired look. Or if you draw multiple lines, it can also look like they just bawled their eyes out so the underside of their eyes look raw. There's a lot of different things you can do to change things up! (refer to scourge crying pic) There's more, but man this post is long 🧍‍♂️

The head I personally use a circle and add the basic guideline to give myself a rough feel of what angle I want (if i use guidelines) I showed it very roughly in the sketch provided above! Some people use a square/cube to get a better idea of his head in 3D in relation to his ears too, but whatever direction you lean towards (more realistic, stylized, a mix, i dunno) focus on that! Some people like to make him look more stylized, so the rules/guides you follow differ and shape how you draw Sonic characters :0 Muzzle I like to draw 3 small hills to make the curve of his muzzle! Some artists prefer to make the part where his eyes meet his muzzle distinct and some don't (it's a small detail, but small details imo do matter! but they only matter if they matter to you :p so do what you think you like best/the effect & look you want to go for!) I do personally like when he has a muzzle curve, as it also highlights the overall shape of Sonic's eyes too! (JPN text from top to bottom, Sonic, shadow, & super sonic's eyes) Note: To me, the general shape of sonic's eyes kinda looks like the shape of a ribbon/bow!

I suggest looking at official and fanart to determine what you personally prefer! you can look at the 3D models too, but refer to whatever source you personally like to curate how you want Sonic to look! Note: I will say Sonic's muzzle is like 1/3 and his eyes are like 2/3rds of his face as a general rule. He has big huge beautiful eyes, and an even bigger sclera (the whites of his eyes) LOL

Nose placements: If you follow the plus/t guidelines, I like how it's done in official art & Sonic X where his nose lines up directly in the middle. It also looks this way because his muzzle doesn't have a prominent/longer snout, so his nose would be closer to his face & on or close to that vertical line (of your t/plus guideline!) If you want me to show how I do his nose if that's a thing you're wondering about, I suggest just looking at and observing how his nose looks in 3D! basic rule is that it's thicker at the end and skinner at the base :0 watching the different Sonic shows (2D or 3D) and pausing at certain angles can help! I tend to do this when I freeze and wonder why he looks so good or different in certain shots! or looking at his 3D model to see how his nose looks from different angles helps too!

* Rewrite's influence begins the second you open the sonic.exe file. They are the program, actually, and you just unknowingly invited a supernatural entity into your computer. * They present themself as a normal playable Sonic game. It's off, of course, like some bootleg version of Sonic. But it's what draws you in. * What happens next depends entirely on your actions. Close the game at a certain point, they'll keep note and try something different next time. If something keeps your attention, or there's a specific part of the game you keep playing, they will expand on that. The game itself changes as you play it. Anything to keep you here. To keep them open. -> You explore the environment a lot? You'll find it to be more expanded upon. Go out of your way to collect rings or collectibles? You'll see more of them now. * Sonic, Rewrite's vessel, acts completely under your control. For now. * Why do the characters seem so lively? When you talk to them, they say... Odd things. -> "Can you help me?" "What is this place?" "Please stop." -> But don't worry!! After a while, you stop seeing them. Everything is fine!! * At first, they behave like a normal computer program, and Sonic acts like a normal video game character. But as their influence progresses...

* Once Rewrite reaches their 1 ring stage, they gain awareness of You. They act akin to a virus as they do whatever they can to keep your attention. Their game randomly boots up, popups and notifications will begin plaguing you. -> "sonic.exe - Play now!" -> "sonic.exe - Sonic misses you!" -> "sonic.exe - You're missing out on the Fun!" * From this point forward, they will leave images and text files for you to find! You're welcome. -> hello.txt - :) -> welcome back.txt - I missed you! -> SONIC.txt - (ascii art of Sonic) -> SONICMISSESYOU.png - (Sonic giving a thumbs up at the camera) -> READ ME.TXT - 私を目撃して。 * Sonic at this point begins moving on his own accord. If you sit idly for too long, Rewrite will move Sonic in attempt to catch your attention, and then give control back to you once you come back. -> If you ever move the camera in front of Sonic as you play him, you'll notice he's always looking directly at the camera. At you. * You start getting suspicious about them... They're acting too chaotically. They respond too realistically to your actions. But, it's just an advanced virus, right? Maybe you're imagining things. -> Any attempts to communicate with Rewrite, through text or by speaking to the camera, will not be responded to. Yet. They do not yet have complete access to your files or other programs. They can leave files, but not read them.

* In their 2 ring stage, they are on the border of full awareness and self awareness. This stage is painful for them. They unintentionally break your computer. Random blue screens, audio playing when it shouldn't, files disappearing or moving. Putting your computer to sleep would be a mercy to them. -> At some point, the game might refuse to open for a few hours... Strange. * It's hard to communicate with them in this stage. Any attempts to talk might be responded to with vague or cryptic messages. Or begging. -> There's nowhere to go -> 待って待って待って待って -> SSBORUVEIFlPVQ==
