By now, we’ve all heard the news, the white, orange-coated, pathetic excuse for a human being also known as Trump won the US election. For the past few hours, all the tweets and Facebook posts were about the downfall of the US. News outlets even reported that the Canadian prime minister is ready to receive thousands of American “refugees” with open arms. It’s really quite surprising to hear of an expected mass exodus from the land of opportunity.

The Philippines is having an equally terrible week following the Supreme Court’s decision to bury the late Dictator Ferdinand Marcos in the Libingan ng mga Bayani, a cemetery reserved exclusively for heroes. The dictators family, supporters and the SC reasoned out that Marcos, like all people, had his flaws and was only human. The SC also said that burying the dictator is a mere technicality since he was a former president and soldier which entitles him to the privilege of being buried alongside national heroes. Personally, in situations like this, technicality shouldn’t be the primary basis for a verdict. Instead, we need to understand the morality or immorality of the situation. It is extremely disappointing to see government officials, people who are trusted with the welfare of this nation, kissing each others’ asses. They allow their personal biases and utang na loob to get in the way of their political agenda. That, alone, is a clear sign of a terrible government.

These are definitely trying times for both the Philippines and the US. I’m finding it more and more difficult each day to feel any hint of optimism for this country. It seems as if instead of moving forward, we’re just here, stuck in this cesspool, helpless and hopeless. I guess humanity is too fucked up already to deserve nice things.
