“Didn’t you say that you were going to quit last week?” Aanya asked with a smirk as she approached, though shook her head to his question. “I don’t smoke. Maybe offer it to someone else or throw it away? That’s what I would do.”

“Hey now,” He chuckled, “As long as it happens before the kid’s here, I’m in good shape,” He felt like that was possible, they still had a few more weeks till he was here. “I feel like I’m wasting it just throwing it away. I mean, this shit’s like fifteen bucks. It’s expensive. It’s like throwing out a brand new pair of shoes.”

Times like this where the humidity was greater than 50%, he truly hated wearing his damn suits. Though that was the small price to pay when you’re a lawyer. Granted when he was in his office where the wasn’t anyone around, he was able to at least take the jacket off but now roaming outside…it’s a different story. Ergo, buttoning his jacket, his attention was brought to a man to his right. 

“Uh, sure. Trying to stop too but I can’t deny to help a fellow smoker out. Or soon to be ex-smoker.” He said as he took one of the cigarettes. “What lead you into wanting to stop smoking?” 

“Listen, I get it. I’ve been smokin’ for way too long. It sorta feels like I’m giving up a kidney or something,” That was a little dramatic, but it really did feel weird. “I got a kid on the way. Figured it’s probably not the best habit to have around him,” Though he definitely had worse vices, he figured that smoking would be the one that Nico would be affected by the most. “Why are you tryin’ to stop?”

   ❝A doctor that smokes always makes me laugh.❞ she quipped, smiling to herself. Not like she could hold that comment back.Though the fact that Spencer was willing to kick the habit to the curb was commendable, she still wasn’t going to be taking up the half a trash he was extending her way. ❝Just chuck it in the trash.❞

He knew the irony of it, and knew the horrific effects of long term smoking. But it was a habit that he had acquired over the years. His addictive tendencies took over way too often. “Listen, my job’s stressful,” He smirked, “Especially right now,” It’s not like smoking numbed the pain but it was at least a distraction. “Do you not smoke?” It was shocking, really. He figured everyone around here did.

   ❝Yes, please.❞ Now that he was living with Gabriel, Chris was finding himself sneaking a smoke outside of his home in order to cope. So when the other guy offered the rest of the pack, he shrugged in acceptance. ❝Ya sure you’re giving it away? Because I’ll take it.❞ he quipped, wanting to help the guy if he really was kicking the habit.

“Yeah, you can have the whole thing if you want,” He offered. He knew that the Krongold man was on the other side, but sharing cigarette packs with the other side wasn’t against the rules, right? At least not yet. “How long does it usually take you finish a pack?” It usually took him a few days, but he knew some people chain smoked or just did it occasionally. 

“You know,” Quinn begins, pushing off from her own corner wall. “–as a fuckin’ doctor, you might consider not offerin’ the woman with a hole in her abdomen a smoke.” The comment was awarded with effortless jesting as emerald hues scaled the length of the male before settling on familiar features.It seemed as each day passed, familiarity returned, and routines began once again. “Nevertheless, I’ll take one.”

Spencer smiled Quinn began to speak. Those who got shot gave them a good scare. He did as well, but he knew he was going to be fine. “You don’t have to take it,” He reminded her, “I swear I’m not peer pressurin’ you,” It was good to see Quinn healthier and she seemed to be in good spirits. “How are you feeling?” 

Jessica peered at the male and nodded her head as she looked at him. “I’d love a cigarette.” She moved in front of him and stopped a few steps as she looked around. “It’s going to be fall soon.” She chimed as she looked down at the pack. “Why’re you planning on quitting?”

“Sure, yeah. Need a light too?” He made sure to move his hand closer to her so that she could take one. “Yeah I’m not sure I’m ready for everything to turn apple flavored,” If there was one thing he didn’t like about fall, it was that. “I don’t wanna be doin’ it in front of my kid when he’s here. Or anywhere near him. Second hand smoke’s a thing, y’know?”

“Well my grandma was a blonde, so there’s a chance.” Liz told him, she knew she hadn’t revealed much of her past to him, but maybe having a baby meant that she should tell him these things. “We are not callin’ our son, Nico Spencer. So just forget that dream right now.” She shook her head, if she was giving him Wilson for the last name, she was not giving in to Spencer as the middle name. “I’m not lettin’ you walk home at all, you have a fuckin’ bullet wound.” She sighed, pulling out her phone. “I’ll call us a cab.”

“Huh, okay. Who would’ve thought?” Not him. “I’m just hopin’ he has one of my physical traits. Maybe some blue eyes or something,” He’d take anything, anything to remind himself that he now had family again. “What’d you rather call him then? Nico Miguel?” He was just spitting out names, maybe she’d like something. “I’m fine, but you shouldn’t be walkin’ home anyways so lets do a cab.”

“You never know Spence, there’s a chance he could come out blonde.” Liz told him. “Then he’d look like you even if he had short hair.” She simply nodded as he agreed to stick with Nico unless something else stuck out to them, though she knew nothing else would stick out to them. Liz rolled her eyes as he tried to use his own name as their sons middle name. “Oh hell no, we are not usin’ your name for his middle name.” She said, shaking her head as she pushed herself up to stand. “Either way, I can see that you’re not dead, and our son is pushing on my ribs, so I’m headin’ home. You comin’ home tonight, or just sleepin’ in your office in case they need you?”

“You know how those pedigree squares work? There’s gotta be some blonde on your side too,” He didn’t know much about her past, or even her but he doubted that she had naturally blonde hair. “Why can’t we use my name? Nico Spencer sounds really good,” At least he was getting his last name. That was something. “I’m not lettin’ you walk home alone by yourself after this shit,” He insisted, even if she was better at protecting them than the other way around. Maybe he just didn’t want to be alone. “So I’m coming. We’ll just have to walk slow.”

Patrick nodded his head. “That makes sense,” he let out a soft chuckle as he shoved his hands into his pockets. He didn’t have a clue who had started the entire thing but all he knew was that everyone had been lucky that Amelia wasn’t shot or he would have lost his entire shit  on anyone who pulled a gun in that building. “Yeah, I gotta say I agree with you there.”

"I was happy but my girlfriend was pissed. Probably cause I got shot,” Was girlfriend the right word for Liz? It felt right to say. “And uh, she’s pregnant so I think she would’ve been pissed if I died.” He definitely was oversharing, but it felt nice to talk to someone who didn’t know about him or his life. Sort of like getting an outsider’s perspective.

There was a moment where Liz was almost surprised how easy this was with him, and she let herself imagine for a second what her life would be if she actually acknowledged the feelings she held for him. Though she pushed the thoughts away almost as quickly as they’d appeared. “Oh, he’ll be handsome, but only because I won’t let him have long hair.” A smirk rested on her lips as she said the words, hoping he knew she was mostly joking. While a part of her wanted to fight for her name, there was a nice sound to the name Nico Wilson. “Let’s just think about it for a bit, the last name ain’t that important yet. We’re settled on Nico though?”

“People aren’t gonna know he’s my son then,” He chuckled, though it definitely was easier to take care of a kid that had shorter hair. He knew how much of a pain in the ass it was to take care of his own hair. "I guess for now unless somethin’ that sticks out to the both of us comes up,” He figured that this was probably the only name they were going to agree on, however. “Nico Spencer,” He didn’t even care that much about his own first name, he just wanted to annoy her. “Whatchu think?”

Patrick nodded his head, letting his eyes rest on the male in front of him. “You sound like you know a thing or two about broken bones?” He questioned as his hands slipped into his pockets, pressing his lips together. “Because they didn’t die?” He knew how morbid the words sounded but fuck a lot of them were lucky that they didn’t die.

“I’m a doctor,” He confirmed, “Gotta know a thing or two in order to be able to practice,” His tone sounded playful, so he hoped that it came off that way and not in a rude way. Damn, why did he have to be so socially awkward? “Yeah, that” Miraculously, everyone did survive. “And cause you had a better shot of not getting shot. I don’t know the odds but they were slim. I’m just glad everyone was okay.” Despite differences between the clubs, he really didn’t want to see any fatalities on either side.

“God, that’d be even worse.” Liz told him, her nose wrinkling slightly in disgust, she may not love his hair, but a wig would be way worse. “Yeah, but I can cut our sons hair so it never ends up like this.” She teased him, lightly flicking his hair with her fingertips. “Not Duncan-Wilson, sounds too much like Dunkin’ Donuts.”

It felt weird having her say our son, though he really did love it. It felt natural as if this was what was supposed to be happening between the two of them. “You mean handsome?” He chuckled, “If that’s too much then let's just go with mine since you said you’re not attached,” Spencer sorta wanted his name to be included somehow, “Nico Wilson has a good ring to it. Or What do you think?” Would they be able to actually agree on this?

Liz just made a face at him, she hated needed help to do the basic things, though she was happy that it was him going through all this with her. Not that she’d ever admit that out loud. Or to herself. “I wouldn’t go that far, I’m just sayin’ maybe try out some short hair for a bit or somethin’.” She probably would’ve cut his hair off in the middle of the night if she hadn’t been worried about him crying over it. “He could be, yeah. I’m not opposed to doin’ like Wilson-Duncan though.” Her family name really meant nothing to her, so if he put up a fight on the name, she’d probably just let him have it.

“I can start wearin’ a wig,” He teased, knowing that there was no way in hell he’d ever do that. He liked his hair too much. “Don’t you like knowing that our son’s gonna have great hair genes?” At least that was one good thing that Spencer could contribute. “It’s up to you. We could do Duncan-Wilson legally and then just have him use Duncan if you want your name especially,” He just wanted to have some sort of connection name wise.

Patrick slowly nodded his head as his hands moved into his pockets. He knew better than to get buddy buddy with any of them especially after what happened with Ivanna. His tongue brushed along his lower lip. “That’s good. How long do you have to not bend it and such?” He asked as his eyes flickered down towards the male’s leg. “Yeah,” he said. “I got lucky.”

“Depends on how fast it heels,” With his drug and cigarette use, it would probably take longer than usual, “It’s not like the bone’s broken, just gotta make sure the stitches stay and place,” At least he knew how to properly clean it. “I feel like those who got shot had the better luck that day since most people weren’t. I should’ve played the lotto that day,” He probably shouldn’t have called it luck, but there was no other way to describe it. 

“This would’ve all went a hell of a lot faster if you weren’t too busy usin’ yourself for shot practice.” Though even as he spoke, there was a teasing hue to his tone. “How you feelin’ man?” Glancing towards the other, he offered him a half-smile. With everything going on, he felt bad for not checking in on his friend sooner. But being down a doctor, also made it a little harder. “Things have been little nuts around here, think everyone is just on edge.”

He wished that he could’ve avoided the bullets while rushing to the aid of Alicia and others, but whoever had hit him had some good aim. Or he just had some shit luck. “I’m sorry ‘bout that,” He knew that Charlie was teasing, but he still felt bad about leaving him on his own. It was the one time he was actually desperately needed pretty much recently. “I’m alright, the leg sorta hurts but I’m tryin’ not to complain too much. I don’t wanna worry Liz,” The last thing she needed was more stress. “I wish we could help everyone relax a little. Maybe we should run a breathin’ session or something.”

“Spence, I need you to help me put my shoes on and we still have ten weeks before he’s due, it’s pretty fuckin’ bad.” Liz looked over at him, she was so used to being independent so needing him as much as she did now was driving her nuts. “Maybe I’d prefer bald.” The woman teased him back, he was really the only person who ever got to see this side of her, mostly because when she was with him she wasn’t afraid to show it. “On the list? So far Nico is the only name on that list, since we can’t seem to agree on anything else.” When he asked about the last name she paused, for some reason she hadn’t even thought about that. “I mean, I thought you’d put up more of a fight for your last name, but yeah- My plan was to use mine.”

“I know, and I got no problem helping you,” Honestly, he just liked to feel needed. And he liked being with her. It felt natural with her. He honestly hadn’t felt that in a long time. “Bald? You want me lookin’ like Mr. Clean?” He chuckled, “Cause I can’t pull that white shirt off,” Was he the only one who liked his hair? Probably. “Yeah, I meant the last name,” He had an attachment to his last name, due to being the only one left in his family who was alive, but he didn’t really care about passing that on to his kid. “So he could be Nico Duncan then? Is that what you’re sayin’?”
