“Hey! It’s usually me asking that!” Macie let out a giggle. She wasn’t used to it being the other way around. When the girl asked her question, her face contorted into one of confusion. “You know… I don’t know… We should take it apart and find out!”

oliver raised an eyebrow at the words coming from the girl’s lips and he shook his head, before letting a laugh escape his lips. shaking his head, his gaze dropped to the pen in his hand, before he handed it back to her. ❝ that’s… that’s really all there is to it, and… is it? i mean, i think it’s pretty impressive how with the press of one finger, you can get something you can write words with. what you’re thinking and feeling in that moment, ❞ he said and shrugged his shoulders casually, ❝ i don’t think that’s disappointing. ❞

rhys’ brows furrowed at the question. honestly, it was a stupid question. but, he wasn’t going to be mean to clueless people. “well, i’m sure you could figure it out if you just opened one up. it’s not that hard. the ink naturally wants to spill out. with gravity, a small vacuum, and a way to control how much comes out, it’s not that hard to see how pens work,” he explained. he wasn’t exactly mechanically gifted, but he could understand the basics. “any more weird questions you need answering, or is that the only one?”

looking at the girl with raised brows, he chuckled softly when the other said that it wasn’t hers anyway and how she had found it on the ground. ❝ cool, ❞ he said as he pulled the end of it open, before showing her the inside of it. ❝ see that there? ❞ he said and then he turned the pen around, showing the tip of it. ❝ that’s how you get ink out, ❞ oliver explained and shrugged before putting the tip back on, then drawing a random doodle on the back of his hand as he tried to figure out if it worked or not. ❝ there ya go. still works. ❞

❝ okay, ❞ he shook his head and bit his bottom lip. ❝ give me the pen and i’ll show you? ❞ he said and shrugged as he held his hand out. ❝ though, you have to keep in mind, i might break it, but hey, there’s millions of pen around, so it shouldn’t be difficult to get a new one, ❞ oliver said and chuckled softly. ❝ so… what do ya say? do you want me to show ya? ❞

chase, unfortunately, did not know much about writing utensils or writing in general. but, he had see someone use a pen here. “well,” he said, thinking for a moment. “i’m no expert, but i’m pretty sure someone stuffed a tiny squid in there and it shoots out,” he said, nodding confidently.

oliver let a laugh escape his lips and he looked at the girl with raised eyebrows. ❝ uhhh, i’m sure it’s not a stupid question, ❞ he said and crossed his arms over his chest while waiting for the girl to ask what she wanted to know. so, when she asked how the ink comes out of pens, he parted his lips slightly. ❝ well, when you push the top of it, the ball in the tip rotates and it picks up ink from the tube inside of this, ❞ he said, patting his fingers against the pen container. shrugging his shoulders, oliver looked up at the girl through his dark lashes. ❝ pretty straight forward. ❞

she thought about that for a moment, having never known of a type of pen that wasn’t ballpoint. “um… that’s a great question. We should figure it out sometime.” she decided, definitivly. “I’m failynn.” she smiled, holding out her hand to her new friend.

Failynn lit up at the question. she’d had the same one before she’d rearched it. “there’s a ball. it rolls. and on one side it collects ink and the other it deposits it as the ball rolls across paper. it’s fascinating, really. that’s why it’s called a ballpoint pen. it has the ball at the point. in my home, we don’t have those. we use feathers and dip them in ink. this is far faster, don’t you agree? and less splotchy.”

“may i ask you a stupid question?” sparrow asked, a perplexed expression on her face as she stared at the pen in her hand. there are no stupid questions. “how does the ink come out of pens?” yes there were. there absolutely were stupid questions.
