I hadn't noticed it before but Silver is using his leg to tap on the floor to get the crew's attention
And then he gets emotionally involved and he loses that leg for them
Also it's always funny how Silver always thinks Flint has magical abilities
Like yeah Silver I'm sure the man has the ability to make gold vanish and to control the weather

Another thing I love about black sails is things have actual consequences
Like Anne killing Charlotte, Anne caring about Max on the beach, Flint killing Mr Gates, Eleanor's dubious choices...
All of it has consequences and they come up when you expect it AND when you don't. Because the characters don't forget what was done to them and to those they love
I looove s2e5 because you have that amazing emotional scene (the whole episode is absolutely incredible tbh) and then you have Vane just jumping in out of nowhere completely breaking the heartbreaking ambiance and that's such a Vane thing to do
I love black sails s2 sooo much and it's in great part because of the flashbacks
Because they're done so well ! They reveal just enough and still leave you wondering, and the atmosphere is so different from Nassau
And even from those few glimpses into the past there is so much we understand, everyone working on this show made such an amazing job of capturing the feeling of remembering the past
Something I really love about black sails is you can really feel the heat and the dirt and the wounds and everything. Like there is nothing glamorous about it, I don't want to live there at all lmao
I had forgotten how shitty Flint's situation is at the beginning of the show. Like this guy is trying so hard to get the Urca gold but he can't tell anyone and his crew just won't listen to him and he's about to be replaced by Singleton and it's all clearly hopeless
And still he thinks it's going to be fine. I don't know if he's delusional or very optimistic or if he just doesn't know how to give up (it's probably the last one)
But still with all the power he has later on in the show, his situation is SO precarious in the first episode

Okay so I'm over again watching black sails and the first episode is SO good like I'm only at the beginning but how amazing is that first scene ?? I can't believe I get so watch such a great show

Genuinely I cannot answer that bro, u just had to be there. unfortunately I wasn't there. and neither was anybody else. it's the best ending I've ever SEEN though trust me it's peerless it's transcendent-- no I know what I just said, no I still can't answer that, look why don't you go find out and report back,

they put storytelling crack in black sails. with many aspects but specifically when they said to be gay is to be fundamentally incompatible with âcivilizedâ society and you will have to draw the line somewhere or you will have to cut your heart out of your chest. and you may think that sacrifice is inevitable and you may think youâre alone but what if itâs not and what if you arenât. what will you choose then? and they did this on such a molecular level for four seasons of television that now I can never be satisfied by a gay storyline on tv again. like either get on their level or stop wasting my time

My unpopular opinion about Black Sails and I hope I don't sound like those annoying cinephiles is that a lot of people watch it with the mentality of it being a normal queer show and put mental tags into it to define the level of queerness the show has (and then get disappointed and angry at the show when those tags don't work with these characters), when its a show that needs to be watched without putting tags into it and be watched as just a queer show
Of course I don't mean not putting sexuality tags into the characters. Max is obviously stated as a lesbian in the show for example and you can perfectly say "she is a lesbian"
What I mean is trying to define the show as "queerbaiting", "bury your gays" , etc with a black and white lense on "If the show doesn't have that, then it's homophobic"
When Black Sails is a story about queerness against imperial power. It is what drives the story and characters, half of the characters are canonically queer and the other half have queer undertones going on them (Jack's relationship with Vane, everything about Silver, Miranda's relationship with Thomas and Flint, Madi's acceptance of Flint and how he became an important part of her life as well, clearly implying a future dynamic closer to the previously three mentioned).
Queerness is not just "he/she is bisexual, he is gay, she is a lesbian" , it's the opposition of societal expectations and lifestyles stated by the current time period and dominating society, in this case, the societal expectations from the British empire in the 1700's. Something that all the characters in the show carry in their stories.
Yes there is a critique to be had about the treatment and sexualization of f/f relationships in the show compared to the m/m ones, you can clearly tell a lot of stuff in the first season especially was the beginning of a queer story that the writers didn't know how to handle without accommodating to studio and audiences specifically, male cishet audiences and to a certain point, even themselves. (So yes, I agree this show needed more queer writers involved)
But, those shortcomings cannot define and deny the overall message and theme of the show.
So, trying to be like "Oh but Silver and Flint didn't get together at the end so it's shipbaiting/queerbaiting" when the whole thing about Silver and Flint is something more going on there but the circumstances and ambitions of the characters, didn't allow them to see each other in another way.
And this is not me saying it because Jon said it, I agree that writers who do not put something in the page and then are like "Oh did you know, they were gay???" are lame.
But Black Sails doesn't hide the fact that there was something going on, a lot of fans love to deny it because Silver didn't look at the screen and said "I love Flint"
But the relationship between Silver and Flint was something else , all the characters in the show noticed it , Madi even notices it and accepts it , the only two who couldn't see it were Silver and Flint themselves and that's what ended it.
You can define it how you want, romantic , queerplatonic , whatever , but there was love there and that, its queer in itself.
Flint wanted so bad to be silverâs gay awakening. He was out in the trenches trying to sus out the vibe between him and silver since season 2. Then finally he was like âmaybe Iâll tell him my gay backstory. Surely that will give me a hint as to how he feels.â And then silver, in true silver fashion, continues to confound flint to no end.
Unfortunately for flint, silverâs true desires are a mystery even to himself. Flint had no hope of ever knowing. Silver never knew and would never know.
