Riff’s gut reaction to that (rather wet an bubbly [because of the tears]) inquiry is to roll his eyes and let slip past cracked lips a cruel laugh. In fact, he doesn’t stop himself from doing so: it was a ridiculous statement to come from the groupie’s mouth. Columbia, all glittery hair and winged eyeliner, all sequined corsets and baby high heels – the villain? Truly, he found it hilarious. The girl couldn’t hurt a fly compared to a certain sweet transvestite they both knew.  

Riff hushed her – less out of sympathy and consolation, more out of ahhh this human is crying and I don’t know what to do about it and I dn’t like it – and placed his rather calloused, bony hands on her shoulders. “Frank doesn’t hate you because you’re you.” (Who could say if Frank hated her at all, honestly? Certainly not Riff, but I guess that didn’t stop him.) “Frank hates you.. because of him. He got bored of you. So it goes.” He pats her shoulders with finality before turning around, as if he did anything of use to the poor, sad girl. “Don’t take it.. too personally. It’s not like he’s.. kicking you out.” Although, to him she should be lucky to be kicked out.
