In this scene kevin looks so happy, I just know it because probably for the first time someone chose to hang out with him. Didn't see him as a freak and actually wanted to hang out with him.

Kevin really was cray cray because he really decided to jump on a dude made of fire.

Btw not trying to excuse kevins attempt at murder but I do completely understand him. These late teens/adults were picking on a little kid, calling him freak and were gonna beat the crap out of him earlier that day. I do think it was justified for them to get their asses handed to them.
