I was playing Skate 3 and cycled in the soundtrack to Eyes Of A Panther since I know it's in the game. Even if the game has a teen rating with language and suggestive themes, the song has a few words censored. "Ass", "blow", "mating", okay... But "Satan"? They censored the Satan in "lips like Satan"? Satan's too much?? For teenagers???

The Pussy Melter was a guitar pedal Satchel developed with a pedal company that got attention before it was released thanks to a band sharing a petition on Twitter to take it down. Even if the general public opinion seemed to be in favor of Steel Panther, the company eventually apologized and decided to go ahead with a different name (Butthole Burner). Steel Panther, however, sold the Pussy Melter themselves and even rereleased an updated version.
The story is well summarized here, and while I was looking for this article again, I also found out that at the time the Pussy Melter was banned on Reverb.
Now, I think this whole thing was just an exemplary case of Steel Panther breaking containment. I don't know if the original petition maker or the band that complained just pulled the trigger on wanting it gone immediately, or if they did bother to look up SP and didn't care about the parody angle, or something else entirely.
Speaking as a woman, I originally came across this pedal while browsing their shop and thought it would be hysterical to get one if I was any good at guitar. But also at that point I was already a fan. I think usually people who find SP arrive from some place of prior knowledge of some context (hair metal fans, 80s music fans, comedy band fans) and it's easy to catch on to the satire immediately. I'm not sure how SP feels when shown completely out of the left field though. And I think it's fine if people felt like calling it out, god knows there's enough misogyny in the music industry, and I wouldn't blame anyone for wanting to change that, even if the effort was a bit misguided. But browsing the comments on that callout post you can see some people were pretty nasty...
I went to my first Steel Panther show the other day, but I had to travel far and alone, so I fought a great deal of anxiety bcs of that. I promised myself that if I survived, I would finish this compilation of gay-ass SP interview moments I was making half a year ago.

Every time I go to the comments of a steel panther music video there's always some greasy 30 year old gigachud saying something like "feminists must LOVE these guys" as if feminists are anti-fun crusaders with the media literacy of a trout. I'm pretty confident most people know they're a parody band and to not take their whole act with 100% seriousness lmao.
Every year or so I get reminded of their existence but this is my first time actually drawing them
