Sometimes not knowing what you want to do in life just means you haven’t experienced enough yet. The answer isn’t always waiting for you to figure it out right away, it’s out there in the things you haven’t tried, the places you haven’t seen, and the people you haven’t met. Go explore, and the clarity will come.
“Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel.”
— Samuel Johnson (b. 18 September 1709)
...a conversation overheard.
"I feel like I've gotten to a point where the world has gotten way past that, and either human beings become a lot more intuitive and a lot better at discernment, or the people are fucked. That's what I'm seeing. That's where we're at. Either people get better at discernment, or we need to become psychically elevated because there's no way. We're fucked. We want communication, and we want connection, and we can't connect with other people because we don't trust them anymore. Why? Because we're too polarized, and if we're too polarized, and we can't trust what we're seeing, and some people aren't even aware of the fact that they can't trust what they're seeing, we're fucked. We're fucked."

whatever eats my corpse would be so infested with my love for you it would spend the rest of its days searching for the taste in anything it eats.

You have no idea what a charming memory you are to me.

saved this for the days that feel stuck.
“Chasin' transient pleasures is a drag these days. I prefer the examined life now... thinkin', reflectin', observin'.”
Tommy le Homme (Disco Elysium 2019)
"It's an easy assumption that if a man can't count, or write, or speak good English, he must be unintelligent. I can give you a perfect example from my own family. My grandfather, the first McKenzie, lived to see the year 2000, but he never learned to count beyond ten and his description of a total eclipse of the moon was, 'Kerosene lamp begone Jesus Christ, he bugger up finish all together.' Now, I can write down the differential equations of the moon's orbital motion, but I don't claim to be brighter than my grandfather. If we had been switched in time, he might have been the better physicist. Our opportunities were different, that's all. Grandfather never had occasion to learn to count, and I never had to raise a family in the desert, which was a highly skilled full-time job."
Excerpt from the 1961 novel A Fall of Moondust by Arthur C. Clarke.

Just picked up Bless the Daughter Raised by a Voice in Her Head by Warsan Shire for my partner, and she was delighted. It’s full of poems about family, survival, migration, and finding strength in pain.
I feel guilty whenever it takes me a while to read a book. Then I remember it doesn't matter how long it takes me to read it. Reading slow isn't bad.
