I have no faith in this adaptation. Maybe the actors do it right. But I doubt it's gonna work. I don't think there's Ed, they'll probably make Jet or Faye Bebop's Hacker. There will be few chapters (6 I think) and Will be focus on Spike and the Red Dragons. I don't know, I just hope they don't screw up with Faye, she's got the most complex character of all.
Aww, well, while I donât necessarily agree with having no faith in the live-action, I do whole-heartedly respect your opinion. Your thoughts on Edâs lack of appearance though is something I havenât thought about, and is an interesting point. They could very well phase Ed out, but I canât imagine why since Netflix has a pretty decent record for hiring decent young actors (think Stranger Things).Â
Also, you bring up a good point about Fayeâs character, reminding me about her and the rest of the gangâs character arcs and whether or not their pasts will be brought up in the same manner as the anime or left out/changed all together.
Thank you for sharing your opinion! :)
I wish they casted someone with crazy hair for spike :[ I really hope Cho doesnt have that hairdo in the show
Honestly, Spikeâs hair was somewhat of a defining character trait for him, but I have to agree that Cho with that hair would probably not be preferable. Maybe theyâll go with a more suave Spike? Iâm not sure, but definitely excited to see more!

Honestly I'm a fan of John Cho but I was expecting them to cast someone younger for Spike, who's supposed to be like 27 I think. I don't doubt his abilities and I'm 100% sure he'll pull it off but I was surprised they didn't go more accurate. I have no problems with the rest of the cast otherwise!
Completely understandable! I agree with you 100%, though I havenât watched many shows/movies with Cho, I canât imagine him being terrible unless the writing itself isnât up to snuff. Since most of the cast donât exactly match their anime predecessors, it would be interesting to see if this at all reflects in their wardrobe.

Cowboy Bebop Live-Action: Casting Discussion
Alright! So, I read all the posts people have made regarding the live-action and wanted to respond to some and open up a discussion on the topic more formally.
First off, I appreciate the fact that no one was attacking each other in the reblogs/comment section despite dissenting and agreeing opinions having been posted. I understand that this is a super touchy topic, especially in todayâs global political climate, but itâs really great to see people being able to voice their opinions on the internet without immediately attacking one another.
Moving on... Everyone brought up decent points regarding why they felt they disliked or liked the live-action casting roles. Some believed that the casting was poor, because the actors do not resemble their anime predecessors, while others were either excited to see diverse casting and/or cautiously optimistic (as @kallypsowrites eloquently puts it) about how the cast members will be able to recreate these iconic characters.
@frasohei also brought up a point I canât believe I didnât notice in the beginning. Who is playing Ed? The fact that theyâre quiet on Ed, who plays a huge role in the story, is somewhat of a red flag to me. In general, casting choices are hidden if the producers know for a fact that the general audience wonât agree, however, like always, Iâm willing to withhold judgement until seeing the actual product.
As for my own opinion, going down the list, I did not expect John Cho to be a pick for Spike, but Iâm not entirely surprised. As of late, Cho has become a popular Korean-American male actor in Hollywood, and I can see the producers choosing him both because of his heritage based on the origin of the show (Hollywood, unfortunately, tends not to care if youâre Korean or Japanese so long as youâre Asian), and because he is a known face both from his early career as âHaroldâ from Harold and Kumar and as âSuluâ from the modern Star Trek movies.Â
Although, I havenât seen him play characters similar to how Spike is represented, that doesnât mean he isnât capable - on the same token it also doesnât mean he is. However, that is a fact that remains to be seen when the show comes out, and Iâm excited to see what heâll do.
Mustafa Shakir as Jet also wasnât someone I imagined playing Jet, but, honestly, I didnât have any other pick in mind, so I canât really say much on his character. Faye and Vicious, to me, are the more interesting choices. Iâm curious to see how both actors will transform their characters into a live-action scene, especially Vicious since, as @dexer-von-dexer mentioned, Hassel doesnât appear to be the lawless katana toting type, but, again, I want to withhold judgement until the actual release.
In essence, while I realize that not everyone looks like they do in the anime, I feel that the show should still be given a chance - a real chance to either break the curse of live-actions being terrible, or to follow in the footsteps of the anime before it.
I am hoping for the simple fact that Bebop is such an iconic anime that it will be the one show that will be able to go against the odds and be as great as the original or, at the very least, stand on its own and cultivate the show for younger audiences coming up.
Like always, Iâd love to hear everyoneâs opinion. What do you think about Edâs lack of a casting reveal and how willing are you to give the live-action a watch when it comes out? Thank you for reading, see you next update! :)
