General description:
- Will involve digital artwork & designing around text â but no specific experience with designing covers or similar graphics is necessary to apply!
- Consistent communication with mods + website designer expected
- Cover will be used in the PDF version of the zine and the website, as well as promotional material
Criteria:
- Pinterest board and graphics folder provided as inspiration/guidance
- Black background either solid, or with a minimal pattern (i.e. stars/particles)
- Include the zineâs title and subtitle in large, readable textÂ
- Roughly stick to a given colour palette found in the graphics folder linked above
- Incorporate aspects of Minecraftâs graphics â the goal is to blend Minecraft with the more ârealâ design aspects present in the pinboards
- Final submission with separate layers for website designing purposes

- November 30th advance deadline, with additional progress check-ins

Role description:
The cover artist will be chosen Sunday, July 12th and will have until Monday, November 30th to complete a cover design for The Anatomy of a Heart. There will be a sketch check-in due August 31st as well as a general progress check-in due by October 31st.Â
The timeline is shorter than most of our other roles, so youâll be expected to work a little quicker than most artists. This is so that the website designer has ample time to adjust the look of the website to fit with the direction the cover artist chooses to go. Extensions can be discussed as the deadline approaches, but in the event one is necessary, we will be requiring drafts so that the website designer has something to work with.
You will be expected to be comfortable both with drawn digital artwork as well as designing around text. We would generally request that you have access to a program with some sort of text tool, but if thatâs not possible, we can discuss options. You do not need to have any sort of specific experience with designing covers or similar graphics in order to apply!
You may be asked to communicate directly with the website designer and mods in a channel in the discord server so that we can discuss the look of the zine together. Your ideas are important to us and we want to be able to integrate them throughout the website and advertisement of the zine so the project feels cohesive! Weâll be easily accessible if you need any help and weâll be able to reach out to you for any questions we might have.Â
Criteria:
The zineâs cover will be used both as the cover of the pdf version of the zine as well as being integrated into the home page of the zineâs website. To ensure the cover design blends with the rest of the website, we ask that the background is left a solid black, or black with some minimal pattern like stars or particles.
The cover will use the same canvas dimensions as the general page artists, that being 2475 Ă 1650 pixels at 300 DPI. This will be a primarily digital zine, so the color profile should be RGB.
The cover must include the zineâs title, The Anatomy of a Heart, in large, clearly readable text, as well as the text âa PlanetLord and baconnwaffles0 fanzineâ somewhere clearly readable on the page. The exact design of the title will generally be left up to your choice, though we may discuss it with you throughout the process.
The cover should generally stick to the color palette provided, though you arenât limited to those colors alone so long as the general feel of your color choices remains true to what we provide.
The provided Pinterest board should serve as your guide for the theme and content of the cover art, but what exactly you chose to do with them is left up to your discretion. The cover could be entirely designed around those symbols without any appearance from Bacon or Planet, or you could choose to depict one/both of them while integrating the ideas from the pinboard either into their designs or into the space around them. The cover should also incorporate aspects of minecraftâs graphics, such as blocks, ui elements like menus, inventory, or the hotbar, inventory item designs, mobs, etc. What specifically you chose to take is up to you, but the goal is to blend minecraft with the more ârealâ design aspects present in the pinboards. We have provided a folder of screenshots and images from minecraft to serve as inspiration, as well as including graphics we have made for the zine, which you are welcome to draw inspiration from.Â
Note: While the zine as a whole is friendly to shipping and romantic depictions of their relationship, the cover should be passably platonic if you choose to depict the two of them. This isnât going to be especially strict; something like a drawing of the two of them kissing/very obviously nearly kissing would be discouraged as a cover submission (more than welcomed for the rest of the zine though!), but weâre not going to place a specific line for what degree of physical contact or intimacy counts as romantic or platonic.Â
Alongside the full completed image, we may ask for a version of the cover with separate layers for the background, text, and artwork to make it easier to interact with on the website as it would allow us to add some minor animation when hovered over or clicked, such as a slight increase in size or slight change in color to indicate it can be clicked on. If you were interested in being more involved in the interactive aspects of the cover, you would be welcomed to work with our website designer, but we wouldnât expect you to.Â

Mercy (he/they/it) is one of the new moderators of The Anatomy of a Heart! Heâs also an artist, a writer, and member of our VOD compilation team.
Mercy is a new member of the zineâs moderation team and a relatively new member of the fandom as a whole, joining the former in April and the latter in early 2025. Heâs technically an artist and occasionally a writer, but heâs probably best known for just saying shit on gay dot com. Spacewaffles have been among their favorite mold spores in the Lifesteal petri dish ever since the notorious February 19th stream convinced them to watch the Three Heart Trioâs POV of Season 4 and theyâre very excited for the opportunity to show more of the fandom what makes the two of them so interesting!
While itâs not particularly involved with any archival projects for Lifesteal outside of this zine, it used to archive Apokuna VODs during the Rats SMP and Pirates SMP days and has a few personal record-keeping projects for mcyt stories and characters itâs passionate about. Their favorite spacewaffles-related vod is âOn the Runâ from Season Four, but the ItzSubz_ wardens and the night of âAdvent of Calamityâ are their overall favorite arc and event respectively.
Chair (any pronouns) is one of the new moderators of The Anatomy of a Heart! Theyâre also an artist and a member of our VOD compilation team.
hi! im chair and i've been a bacon main for a couple years now, so i'm very happy to contribute to such a fun project in our little community :-D
My favorite Bacon VOD would probably be 'end busting'! Besides having some cute loser duo interactions, i think it's a good representation of how quickly and drastically the atmosphere changes when Planet and his actions start wrecking Bacon's life in the middle of an otherwise unrelated stream.
