indie roleplay blog for Hot Rod from Transformers G1 | mun is over 30 and has no plans to babysit anyone | mun is also too lazy to make a real blog and will be remaining dash only
hey, hi, call me Elsa. this is an independent roleplay blog for Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime from Transformers. kind of continuity soup, but mostly based on the G1 cartoon and movie. posts will be slow and will run the gamut from a couple sentences to a few paragraphs. I will not be constructing an actual blog because I am lazy <3
I'll be Hot Rod or Rodimus Prime depending on the thread. I'll probably default to Hot Rod unless context means Rodimus would make more sense, or we've discussed it in advance.
anyway, memes are great. random asks are great. if you find yourself asking yourself 'am I sure I can interact with this Hot Rod?' then just assume the answer is yes.

It seems a little backwards, considering usually it's Sweepy springing himself upon Rodimus, while the Prime just sort of gamely going along with it.
But Rodimus is definitely behind on recharge, he's midway through five vaguely diplomatic tasks that he's been playing Hot Potato with Magnus over, and Sweepy is the least demanding part of his day so far. His expression actually brightens a bit when he spots Sweepy.
He cups Sweepy's face, leans down, and kisses him, more than just a peck but nothing too extreme.
Aaand, then he's on the move again, offering a distracted, "Hi. Okay, bye," as he goes. Break time's over, duty calls again.
roddy deffo seems to like allen's spike, but what about him? what's he packing down there? does this count as a lore-based question? | Anonymous

anything can count as a lore-based question, if you're willing to throw the dictionary hard enough
and Roddy's spike is basically right smack in the middle of the 'perfectly average size for his frame' range. (however I will, once more, remind you all: wook at him. he's widdle.)
it's mostly the same color gray as his hands and face, with dark pink ridges along the top and bottom. not, like, violent pokey ridges. they're mostly flat, kinda overlapping like the scales on a snake's belly. he comes ribbed for your pleasure.
Allen's spike was throbbing, and his valve was leaking. He was touching the bot his spark pined for. He had the beautiful Autobot's valve in his grasp. It tickled him to know that he got this little Autobot to fall in love with him. And he was just butterflies because he loved Hot Rod with all his spark.
So, the speedster wanted to speed things along? He wanted his spike so bad? There was the size difference he had to worry about. If Roddy was ready enough, Allen's spike could slip right inside. Maybe he'd give his little mech a test.
He smirked as his two digits that were rubbing Hot Rod's exterior node slipped deeper between his folds and pierced into Hot Rod's valve. They made the plunge. Oh, Hot Rod was definitely wet enough for him. He purred to know it.
The Eradicon pumped his digits in and out of him, slowly but deeply. He just wanted to make Hot Rod squirm into his touch. He wouldn't torture his love for very long, though, because he was too eager to fit that valve onto his spike.
He pludged his digits in deep once more, watching his lover melt into him, before slowly removing them. He took a glance at his wet digits and rubbed them together. They were oil slick. He then rubbed the fluids on his spike, wetting himself more with a moan.
Allen lifted Hot Rod from under his arms, encouraging him to move into a sitting manner as Allen hovered the mech's valve over his firm spike. He then slowly set the mech's valve over his spike. The head of his spike slowly pushed its way into Hot Rod's valve.
The Eradicon moaned loudly with a gasp. His frame shivering and his spike nearly busting already just from the sheer excitement, but he refrained.
Slowly, slowly, he finally fit Hot Rod's tight valve over his spike completely, feeling the slight air suction pop as his head entered the valve, and then he felt himself ease the rest of the way in.
Once he was fully inside Hot Rod, he peered at his lover's face. His own face plate was burning, and his fans were on high. His intake was open loosely with the look of ecstasy on his face. He could drool in the moment. He was ready to rock the speedster's world.
Oh, okay, ask and ye shall receive, apparently. Allen's digits sink into Hot Rod's valve, and for a second he has to stop himself from squeezing his thighs together, trapping Allen's servo there. His servos tighten around Allen's waist, digits pressing into the seams between plating. He sighs out a breathy, not entirely intentional, "Yeeesss, thank you," as Allen's digits sink in deeper.
While Hot Rod will not admit to whining, that's really the only way to describe the noise he makes when Allen pulls his digits out. However--
A quiet, startled noise follows, caught somewhere between a gasp and a digital chirp, when Allen lifts him, and his spoiler wings hike up higher. It only takes a second to catch up to what Allen's after, though, and Hot Rod hitches his legs up long enough that he can straddle Allen's lap, knees on either side of Allen's hips.
His spoiler is beginning to dip back to its usual placement--only to hike right back up as the head of Allen's spike presses to his valve, and his next ex-vent shudders as it comes out. He surges forward with renewed urgency, cupping Allen's face in both hands and kissing him, rushed and messy. His vents open wider and his fans speed up a couple of notches.
The kiss parts every so often with a gasp or a moan as Allen steadily lowers Hot Rod onto his spike, but only for a moment each time, as Hot Rod is always quick to lean back in, insistent and needy, nipping lightly at Allen's lip every so often.
It seems to take forever, but then the head of Allen's spike meets Hot Rod's ceiling node, and the kiss breaks as he makes a little punched out gasping noise, save for a strand of oral solvent stretching between their mouths for a second before it snaps. Hot Rod is sitting on Allen's lap at this point, Allen's spike fully sheathed, and Hot Rod shifts carefully, grinding down against Allen's lap almost experimentally.
His calipers squeeze, and Allen's spike presses against what feels like every internal node Hot Rod has, and a quiet, "oooh fuck," slips out. He shudders, the tips of his spoiler hiking up high and taut again, trembling slightly. His engine revs without him even meaning to and his fans roar, and he clutches at Allen's shoulders because he's pretty sure every strut in his frame might spontaneously turn into molten slag if he doesn't have something to hold onto, and he can't let that happen or he would miss the best part.
"I'm not gonna break, Al," he points out after a moment, equal parts challenge and reassurance. He grinds down against Allen's lap again, as if to drive his point among other things home.

"Slag no, if a Decepticon points a gun at you, fight back! Only exception would be one of the other Vehicons, or like, Megatron or something. If you point a gun back at him, his fusion cannon will..." he looks off into the distance with a blank look on his face. No. He wouldn't let it come to that. He didn't want his Megatron anywhere near someone who was once a Prime. Primes seemed to trigger Megatron's wrath.
If Hot Rod was anything like Smokescreen, though, he knew he'd be safe... fairly. Of course, he'd give slag to the commanders, but Hot Rod probably knew how to get himself out of a situation like that.
But none of that was going to happen! This was going to be a fun and safe field trip! He was going to show Hot Rod the future! His present. Maybe they could park somewhere and watch some vehicles drive by and point out the cool-looking ones. Maybe he could find some race and get Hot Rod involved. He'd love to see him win! A drive-in theater date sounded nice... he hadn't thought it all out at the moment. He figured they'd enjoy as they went.
He smiles, finally, thinking of the adventure that awaits, and he looks down into the speedster's blue optics. He plants a long kiss on Hot Rod's forehelm and then pulls out his remote bridge.
"Pretty sure if we run into Megatron, that means several other things have already gone wrong," Hot Rod observes wryly, because poking fun at the idea is more fun than contemplating what might happen if he was actually staring down Megatron's fusion cannon. And it was more fun than pointing out that Allen had spaced out twice now in the conversation.
Should they have put a bit more planning into the field trip? Probably. But even when Hot Rod had been Prime, planning hadn't exactly been one of his stronger skills. He'd been more of a 'think on his feet, make changes on the fly, look at Magnus and ask what's on the docket' sort of Prime.
It would be fiiiiiine. It would probably just be a brief field trip, just for this first attempt.
"Ready," Hot Rod confirms, smiling up at Allen. For the moment, he makes no efforts to actually separate himself from Allen. "Do I need to do anything, or do you just hit a button and then poof?"
Allen let loose a small vent like a breeze as he laughed. Hot Rod was petting his helm? Why did he have to be so cute?
His spark felt so big in his chassis as he held Hot Rod. He loved the attention he got back from the speedster. Sometimes, there didn't need to be words. He was just content loving up his sports car, and he was sure Hot Rod felt the same about loving up his jet.
He turned his helm slightly so he could nuzzle his cheek onto the top of Hot Rod's helm and tightened his hug. He could just squeeze the life out of him! They could be one spark! Internally, he smacks himself for thinking something like that. He could never squeeze Hot Rod to death. He would be miserable without the mech. But being one spark didn't sound like a bad idea. Sometimes he wonders what Hot Rod would think about the things he thought in his processor. Of course, none of it was meant to be harmful. He just loved Roddy too much!
"What's so funny?" Hot Rod challenges playfully, shoving his helm lightly against Allen's cheek as he does. Though, he winds up laughing himself as Allen squeezes him tighter.
He wants to burrow inside Allen's plating and live there, sometimes. Wrap around his spark chamber like a shield and keep it safe. Is that weird? That's probably weird. He can't really bring himself to feel bad about it, though, considering most of the time he's pretty sure Allen would invite him in anyway.
"Love you," he murmurs, for no real reason other than that he likes saying it, and he squeezes one of Allen's hands. One of them could die any day, and yeah, sure, maybe that's morbid, but at least neither of them will have ever left it unsaid.
He's just gonna snake his arms around Roddy and hug him close from behind and place slow, long kisses on the back of his beautiful helm. | @alpha113nredshirteradicon
Hot Rod's spoiler wings shift to make space, before settling once again. He leans back in Allen's hold, one hand curling around one of Allen's wrists, his optics dimming slightly in contentment.
After a moment, he disrupts the kissing to nuzzle his helm up, under Allen's chin. He reaches up and back with his other hand as he does, cupping the back of Allen's helm. When he lets the kissing resume, his hand stays where it is, gently and sort of absent-mindedly petting Allen's helm.

|| I guess it's accurate? but it feels like it's a few steps to the left of true. 'cause yeah, Roddy hides emotional pain like a sick cat, but he does so in a particular way. Roddy's "job," so to speak, isn't just to be okay, his job is to be happy. so unless he really trusts that someone won't be freaked out (or if he's just too tired to put on the act), then Roddy's tears aren't silent so much as they get laughed off. a very 'lol sorry I'm being dumb' sort of thing.
You've mentioned a few times not knowing how to approach IDW1 muses because you haven't read the comics. Do you ever plan to do that? /gen | Anonymous
I mean if it was ONLY because of lack of knowledge, that would be one thing. but it's also because of finessing I would have to do to cram Hot Rod into that universe in a way that still feels like a translated version of 80s G1 Hot Rod, rather than just slapping a coat of pink paint and a new name onto an unrelated character.
sometimes that's pretty easy! I watched Armada, not Micron Legend, so from my perspective, Armada did not have a Hot Rod in residence and the lore of the universe was similar enough that I could just directly translate a lot of my default verse over, even if I did turn Kup into a go-kart in the process. (I know there's a Rodimus in Energon, but I pretend Energon didn't exist. I hated Kicker that badly. Ironhide was also sort of annoying and looked REAL stupid, but mostly I just Could Not Stand Kicker to the extent that I have struck the entire series from the record. no, you can't change my mind. apologies to anyone who liked Energon. you are stronger than me.) there is a Hot Rod in one of the Bayverse movies, but he has virtually no similarities to G1 Hot Rod, so it was pretty goddamn easy to just say 'okay, he has a different name now' and then slot a slightly modified version of G1 Hot Rod into that world.
sometimes it's just irrelevant! the lore of Animated is different enough that there would be no feasible way to translate a G1 Roddy, so I didn't bother. Rodimus Prime shows up in Animated for like six minutes of screen time, three paragraphs of backstory, and two comic panels to assure us he's not dead. he's there just long enough for us to appreciate the fact that he's got the best design and the coolest weapon in the series. and the three paragraphs of info we get on him still seem pretty accurate to G1 Roddy! so the handful of times I've written with Animated muses, I've been working under the assumption I'm just writing regular TFA Rodimus Prime, because there's nothing to prove me wrong. similarly, in TFO, there would be no way to directly translate G1 Roddy, so I would not bother. we know Hot Rod exists and is a cogged mech because his name comes up on the leader board for the race, but that's literally it. if I ever write him in TFO, I can do literally whatever I want with him which will probably be 'well-meaning party boy goober'.
but then sometimes there IS a Hot Rod, and he IS similar enough to G1 Hot Rod and has a sizeable enough role that I can't just go 'okay, that guy has a different name now,' and slot my boy in. like, Cyberverse? it has a Hot Rod, and he is definitely Hot Rod enough that I can't just say 'your name's Jimmy John now, move over.' and that's one of the issues with IDW1. there is a Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime, and he is inextricable from the canon. there is no room for me to put my Hot Rod in there without just saying 'he's Hot Rod from a different universe,' but he is still different enough that he is not the same character as 80s Hot Rod, and so he is not my Hot Rod.
(for the record, I am open to going 'this is Hot Rod from a different universe' with any IDW muses who wanna play, but I don't need to write up an entire IDW verse for that.)
all of that answers the spirit of your question.
to answer the letter of your question, no I will probably not read the IDW1 comics. from what I know of them, I don't think I'd enjoy them. I like a lot of the pieces, but not the way they're assembled.
page break because this is already long and also if someone doesn't want to read me complaining about what I know of the comics, they should not have to.
from what I've seen, a lot of the writers didn't have a great grasp on character development? so everyone's kind of a yo-yo. Optimus yo-yos between 'world-weary paternal leader' and 'wow what a dick.' Prowl yo-yos between 'War Crimes McGee' and 'just uncomfortably pragmatic.' Megatron is wandering around still and has Optimus's blessing to harass his co-captain who he killed but the writers want us to believe that actually Starscream, notably and infamously not the leader of the Decepticons, is the truly irredeemable one, except for when he isn't. Rodimus does dumb and/or selfish shit and then learns from it, until he's doing something else dumb and/or selfish in the next chapter because goddamn that rubber-banding.
like, it's a series where they had to throw Megatron in a slow cooker and leave him there to have all of his character development off screen, because they couldn't figure out how to write it, and then the series ends and basically everyone except CyWhirlGate is fucking miserable and/or dead, to the extent that they killed an immortal space robot from old age. it came with a fix-it AU built in.
(I still can't get over the fact that the only reason Chromedome didn't go off the goddamn deep end is because they gave him a replacement goldfish from another universe. do they ever get into the horrific implications there, or does no one ever say anything about it because it's already pretty clear that Chromedome's just generally Not Okay?)
(also, like. Ratchet NEEDS forged medic hands? he NEEDS them? nothing else will work? really? either Ratchet is bigoted as all fuck and nothing and no one in the series (including his hippy-dippy all-loving boyfriend) calls him on it, which is yikes, or the series is declaring, explicitly and canonically, that forged mechs are, in fact, better than MTOs, and that's even more yikes. as someone who is marginalized across multiple axes, I Don't Like That.)
so, like. yeah. I can understand why a lot of people like it, and I like playing with the toy box when I write, and I would love to write with IDW1 muses, but as an actual series, I don't think it's for me.
