My cousin's daughter whom I watch during the week days got her driver's permit a couple of weeks ago so I've become the official passenger in my own car. She won't let me drive anymore at all, lol. She said she feels more comfortable driving my car and with me in general, which I appreciate, so I'm definitely not complaining. She doesn't have a mother in her life and her dad works out of state for weeks at a time, so she needs someone to help show her the ropes of driving without freaking her out when she might do something wrong.
She's gotten so comfortable with driving while I ride with her that we just picked up her two friends and we all went to the grocery store for a few minutes. She's 16 and wants that freedom of having a car of her own so she can come and go and be independent, like we all did at that age.
She's gaining confidence, and that's what I told her is the most important thing about learning to drive. She thanked me when we got back to her house just now. That made me smile.
