Here’s our TCM picks for the week of Dec. 28, 2020:

1. A Chump at Oxford (1940) at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT Monday, Dec. 28: Before ringing in the new year, spend Monday evening with December stars of the month Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. This very funny feature has Stan being mistaken for an English lord and includes the famous “from soup to nuts” routine.

2. The Battle of Algiers (1966) at 6 am ET/3 am PT Wednesday, Dec. 30: Several giants of cinema passed away in 2020, including famed composer Ennio Morricone (most movie fans will recognize his famous score for the Spaghetti Western, The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly). TCM pays tribute to Morricone with his atmospheric, influential score for this neorealist film about a political uprising in North Africa.

3. The Thin Man (1934) at 9:15 am ET/6:15 am PT Thursday, Dec. 31: For many TCM fans, it wouldn’t be New Year’s Eve without spending at least a little time with stylish detectives Nick and Nora Charles (played by iconic duo Myrna Loy and William Powell). All six movies are playing on Thursday starting with the sparkling first entry in the series. We’ll be tweeting along on Thursday morning at https://twitter.com/oldhollywood21 

4. Born Yesterday (1950) at 4 pm ET/1 pm PT Friday, Jan. 1: TCM’s New Year’s Day lineup of comedies has everything from the Marx Brothers to W.C. Fields. Rom-com fans won’t want to miss this charming film starring Oscar-winner Judy Holliday as a gangster’s girlfriend and William Holden as the handsome reporter who gives her civics lessons.
