Summary: Joon and Yonghwa have been friends since childhood. Now in their twenties they both try to pursue their dreams of acting and music respectively. This story is about friendships, growing-up, losing yourself for a while, falling in and out of love and everything else that is part of that.
“Here,” Joon handed the finished cigarette to Yonghwa.
“Thanks,” Yonghwa looked down on the thinly rolled smoke between his fingers. “Since when did you stop buying packs and started to roll?”
Joon fumbled for the lighter in his jacket, “Have we really not met for that long?... It's cheaper man, cheaper... and I'm a little tight on cash at the moment...so, yeah.”
Yonghwa leaned in, lighting his cigarette with the fire from the flue between Joon's fingers.
Then he exhaled the smoke into the damp air, “Yeah... I guess it's been a while...”
And as both of them set next to each other on that cold, low concrete wall, looking out at the nightlights of the city below them, they knew it was true.
I have come to realize the importance of friendship.
It's funny how you only appreciate a good thing once it's gone.
Lost the girl to idiocy, chased away my mates and possibly ruined a career.
But drunk as hell on a piano bench all I know in that moment is that it's true what they say. That friendships are like money, easier made than kept. And that they are strongly tied to timing. There's a time for silence and a time for letting go. Because people need to be caught up with their own destiny every once in a while. But eventually the time comes to be there again and to pick up the pieces together when it's all over.
Yes, I believe eventually that's what it's all about. Being there and picking up the pieces.
Even if it's hard to explain and against all logic.
Even if there is no real survival value to it.
We will pick up the pieces and hopefully realize...
...that after all and everything we are friends indeed.
Yes, I still hope we eventually will.
