this fic features beth & rio needing to escape to a safehouse & sharing a bed -- but that’s more the backdrop to the main plot, which involves them (drunkenly) talking some shit out. (beth and rio just kind of rolling with having to share a bed tends to be my fave take on this trope, cos i don’t think they’d necessarily be particularly pearl clutchy abt it...though i can def see them getting v possessive of their side, ha). i love the characterisation of both of them here, and absolutely adore the relationship with sound throughout the fic tooooo!

i love it SO much!!! i love the tone! i love the language! i love the beth characterisation! i love the lowkey hilarious asides! i love (hate?) how fucking annoying both of them are! i love how effective it is as a short story! i love how effective it is as a ~horror story! i love the angst! i love the beth n ruby stuff!

(i am remembering now how much i hate like blurb-reccing fics bc im terrible at it adfgffg BUT) this is the only fic i managed to write a rec for on https://goodgirlsficrecs.tumblr.com/, THAT’s how much i love it!!!

the s2 finale broke me, and i was SO hungry for fic to ~fix that, and idk, this made me feel both seen & seeing and it’s my FAVOURITE ~resolution (i mean, it’s probs light on genuine resolution, but i think that’s part of WHY), & the characterisation is f l a w l e s s  to me, & as someone who loves canon-compliant, plot-lite, angsty, short fics, it just hits P E R F E C T & it feels like there’s this ideal confluence of form and content & it’s just the BEST ok!!!!!

ooh ok, so this is interesting!

cos we know that beth cooks a lot, and uses (making) food as a way to express care (and guilt). but also that if she’s sad, and doesn’t have other ppl to perform those duties for (and i do think perform is the right word), she stops doing all of that, and dramatically eats depressing lean cuisine meals at the dining table by herself (bc both beth and rio need to moon around like they’re in an emo music video at all times, apparently).

now *I* would probs describe her lean cuisine stuff as junky, but idk if it exactly falls into the typical category of junk food? particularly bc when annie and ruby are rinsing her for her pathetic dinners, they’re trying to lure her into a big mac instead. [sidenote: mcdonalds patties are gross, if they’d suggested something edible like bk or kfc i feel like she mightve bitten.]
