Dragon's Child

“You should get used to all the meetings…you’ll be a busy girl from now on.” Drayden mentored, before he caught himself before he found himself in the middle of a Lesson.

No. Now was not the time for that…today was the day for celebrations. He accompanied and helped Iris get past the Interviews and prepare for her duties. Today was the rare occasion when they’d be free, and he had prepared a gift.

“You have what now?” Her attention was drawn back to her mentor and her mood quickly reverted back to overwhelming glee. “What is it? What is it?” Iris pestered the old man, bouncing up and down like a child would.

“Iris dear, could you spare a moment?”

The Elite Four member flagged down his Champion, keeping his voice cool, though inside he was a bit frazzled. He had lost sight of his Houndoom ( how, he was unsure of, as certainly a large hellhound wouldn’t be too hard to lose, right? ) and while he was sure that she was doing fine, he’ll rather be safe then sorry. Perhaps Iris had seen her.

“Your Houndoom? I was playing with her earlier this morning out in the gardens.” She answered, rather unsure if her fellow elite was alright with that. Although, the canine didn’t seem to mind that much. “I saw her go back inside afterwards. I just assumed she’d come back to you.”

Now she felt a little guilty for not ensuring that she returned to Grimsley. After all, she was the one that coaxed the Houndoom to play with her outside.

He had needed a successor…and he traveled wide and far, and he’s found little success with his search. It wasn’t until he arrived at a distant Town of Dragons.

Drayden remembered watching the small children battle. Each of them with their own dragon types, each filled to the brim with joy. However after their loss…they would feel upset and bitter. Typical and understandable reactions…through time they’d grow to become more firm and strong.

However there was one exception that caught Drayden’s eye. A small girl and her axew…no matter how many times she lost, a bright happy smile stayed consistently on her face.

The bright energetic happy glow that emitted from the girl. The consistent joy and love for pokemon and battling.

Yes….she was the one. This little girl could show him a brighter future…After some talking and some clarification…Drayden had finally found his successor.

He remembered watching the young girl who would cling to his sleeves, begging for a chance to play with his pokemon to him watching her take on on her first Gym Challenge.

And now…

Drayden let out a small laugh…

She’s grown so much.

He opened the door to Iris’ room, hhad heard the girl celebrating earlier. 

“I just still can’t believe it’s really happening. Me, champion?” She spoke quickly in an over-exuberant manner. “I mean, I always thought I’d take over the gym for you when you retired but this is way more than I ever imagined.” Her eyes shone brightly up at Drayden, who almost seemed more proud her than she was. How could he not be after all? 

She had so much to owe to him, as well as Alder and her Pokemon for their hard work. Without his encouragement, she never would have even thought to test her strength against the top trainers in Unova. Iris could have sworn that he teared up when the news of her victory came to light.

Today was actually the first day in a few days where the press wasn’t hounding her with questions about the battle with Alder. She was thankful for a quiet day like this, as it gave her some time to reflect on her victory and just relax without having to be in front of the camera all day.
