Basically, increased co2 concentration in the air makes plants make more carbohydrates, but not take in more nutrients from the soil, so they grow faster but have a lower density of vitamins and minerals. Plus, they're "breathing" more efficiently and actually using slightly less water, so they're taking in even fewer nutrients. And the faster growth can't make up for the rates of damage due to climate instability (droughts, floods, extreme heat etc).
The research shows approximately a 3% drop in nutrient density since the 1980s, particularly in carbohydrate heavy crops (like most starchy staple foods), but so many people around the globe depend on those crops for over half their diet that it's very easy for them to fall into malnutrition without access to more expensive shit like enriched products, supplements, and even just fruits and vegetables. Like all the effects of the climate crisis, this impacts those least responsible first.

do people just not find those AI pop-ups everywhere not incredibly patronizing: "help me write" "help me visualize" help me put my balls in your mouth
palace
i wanted this one to kinda look like a memory :)
The old school lack of transparency on tumblr is amazing because you assume the people you follow must all be equivalent to you and then you see someone write “I brought my youngest to college today” and someone else write “my mom wouldn’t let me listen to Ariana Grande when I was a kid” and then your head explodes
and we need that! keeps us humble.
Then I'm just like WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU’RE AN ADULT
It goes the other way, too, because WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU'RE A CHILD?!!
I'm 16, that's like, barely a child
I'm in my 30s. You are baby
I'm older than both of you in a trenchcoat.
honestly one of the best things we can do for ourselves is realize that people of different ages than us can still be the same kind of person as us. it's humbling and it gives everyone involved a sense of continuity, and it busts those stupid generational stereotypes media is so fond of.
Hey idk who needs this but helpful reminder that "virgin blood" in any witchcraft shit that requires that means "virgin" in the same sense as "virgin hair" means hair that hasn't been dyed or processed in any way, natural in the default sense. So no, "virgin blood" doesn't mean blood from a virgin, just blood that hasn't been used for any other kind of witchy shit earlier.
Whether nor not someone has fucked before is completely irrelevant. Any act of fucking doesn't instantly make someone contaminated or un-magic any of their shit. You're just not supposed to re-use blood for blood magic. That's just not. Just do not. Like that's just weird who does that.
no wait that- no that's not- no.
Unles you've like, poured out ALL OF YOUR BLOOD, used it for a spell, and then somehow SIPHONED THE WHOLE THING BACK IN, that doesn't mean the blood on the inside of you is also used. And even then, if you'd had your sacrifical blood IV'd back into your body-
actually nevermind, I need to draw a graph to illustrate:
I hope this helps.
The blood inside of you is used. Constantly. It's why there is blood there.
If anything, the blood on the outside is unused.
damn they ain't lying, it is like talking to a fucking genie with you people.
women were not banging out spirk fanfiction in the 60s for you to be AI generating your fic

I do think maybe people don't notice/care that starkid pretty much only writes straight relationships anymore because they're so invested in headcanoning characters as queer and like. that's actually not the same thing
these are great tags @ dr-docktor and you bring up a great point.
It shouldn't be on the actors to "confirm" things about the characters they play but rather the writers who wrote those characters in the first place. Furthermore, retroactively "confirming" queerness of characters doesn't change how they are still continually presented as a joke in their canon. The actors don't have that much sway over how their characters are written, they're still beholden to the writers and director choice.
This fandom tends to prop up these paltry handouts of the retroactive queering of these characters without thinking of the implications of such a thing. It lends far too much praise to the writers who do not attempt to think how it looks for their actually canonized queer characters to only be punchlines. As much as I love Mariah declaring all the characters she plays (save for Alice) as pansexual, that doesn't actually meaningfully change anything about the overall writing, which she has little to no power over.
very heavily agree with all of this!! I think the thing that frustrates me the most is that for decades and decades we've had creatives in film and television saying "well we wanted to make xyz queer character/relationship/project, but the executives wouldn't let us, the studio wouldn't let us, the advertisers wouldn't let us" so we had to settle for queercoding and subtext and implication because it was the only thing we could get
That is not true for starkid (and theatre has historically always been the place to take those risks and explore queer stories more fully to begin with!). Starkid are the creatives *and* the executives. Advertisers don't fund those shows-- fans do, and many of those fans are queer and might appreciate being treated like their stories and relationships are more than just afterthoughts or punchlines
Starkid doesn't have those same external pressures to produce a widely marketable economic product, so frankly it seems like they just can't be bothered to think about the existence of queer people at all, and certainly not with the kind of heart, depth, and intentionality they give to their many, many straight relationships. In the last ten years, starkid has had more man + car possessed by his dead wife, or man + troll in a dead human girl skinsuit, or boy droid and girl droid content then we've had onstage/onscreen gay relationship. Queer people rate below "man fucks car wife" I guess?
And it's sad to me how many people just eagerly accept this, because they headcanon Richie as queer, or Mariah headcanons her characters as pan or Joey thinks Ted is so horny that he's probably bisexual (don't love that this and canonically bi Ruth seem to share the bisexual = extra horny premise), or MacNamara is gay according to a tweet or livestream or a cut scene or whatever. What we actually have on stage/screen is like 20 seconds of Deb and Alice in a series that has three full length musicals AND two webseries seasons AND several very well developed canon straight relationships (plus more from VHSCCs and now Tomb Quest)
I think another part of the problem is that there's a tendency to say "oh, well starkid are all good kind-hearted liberals, so we know they're actually cool with queer people!!" Great. Where are they then? It's like a perpetual "Oh don't worry, we know Starkid is good for it!" I grew up in actual, literal small town Michigan and knew more queer people than are currently confirmed to exist in Hatchetfield
And I think another issue is that the general fandom has no problem treating TCB like a separate entity when it comes to (not) promoting TCB stuff or (not) contributing to TCB kickstarters, but because of the overlap between the two companies (Corey, Brian Rosenthal, and Joey obviously, but also people who've been in TCB shows like Lauren Lopez and Curt Mega) I do think people tend to count TCB's heavy focus on queer characters/relationships as "basically starkid." Like TCB is the spinoff channel where Starkid puts their gay stuff. And that makes me really irritated, because whatever critiques I have of TCB, they at least make the conscious choice to center queer characters and stories and even (gasp!) romances (even if they all end in misery and/or death, at least they fucking exist man). Starkid may have Curt and Joey in their shows, but they do not have Agent Curt Mega and Owen Carvour, yknow?
And finally, I think there's just a trend in fandom in general right now for people to say "actually I don't want canonically queer characters/relationships, I prefer queerbaiting, etc" and trying to present this as some radical new queer paradigm instead of what it is-- a capitulation to right wing homophobic backlash. A retreat where they can go back to comfortable headcanons instead of demanding better from the media they engage with. Maybe, **maybe** that might make some small amount of sense to me for some popular network show that has always been hostile to the idea of queer people, but it certainly doesn't make any sense for an independent theatre company that is largely funded by its queer fanbase
Random question but what's your opinion on Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark from the hunger games?
they make me start frothing at the mouth and punching drywall thanks for asking <3

Happy Tomb Quest Digital Rental Release Day!! I love this show so much. I’m gonna rewatch it as much as I can within my rental period 🙂↕️

you can’t separate transmisogyny from racism. the radical feminism movement is so overwhelmingly white because their idea of what a woman is is so thoroughly steeped in white supremacy.
You can’t separate transmisogyny from racism. Very important to remember
i’d never even thought about the fact that when bug is sacrificing himself for the starship rangers and having that honest conversation with february, him and her are separated by glass… when he says “the needs of the many outweigh the few…”
and his feelings for february are clearly romantic.
the other one or two starkid fans who are also trekkies can we talk about this pls?

I miss when it was “that’s photoshopped” instead of “that’s ai”
gods yes
1: photoshopping is an actual skill and takes time to learn and time to do and is something that a real person does. I might not like the one i'm looking at, but i respect the medium
2: because it is a skill done by humans, photoshopped images cannot be made and uploaded to the internet ten thousand times an hour by a single account - multiplied by, potentially, near infinite accounts - drowning out our ability to access non-photoshopped images online.
3: various city counsel members and government officials aren't for SOME reason (coughbribescough) completely ignoring the fact that none of us want hugely expensive and wasteful "photoshop processing" centers installed
saw this on Insta and the idea that people who are anti-AI are just using it anyway like... willing to give it up? I ACTIVELY AVOID THAT SHIT BUD! WHAT ARE YOU EVEN TALKING ABOUT?
ALSO
It's not as if this shit has been around SOOO LONG. We all existed JUST FINE before this shit became THE THING someone decided to shove in our face like...
#People who use Ai are so convinced everyone else does too but they're just fucking stupid#I have to take time to learn about AI because of work but if it disappeared completely tomorrow I would feel nothing but relief#I would buy a huge victory cake and eat so much it made me sick
There's a stable subset of people whose imaginations are so stunted, whose empathy is so shrivelled, who have never had to confront being excluded from anything, who simply can't imagine anyone thinking differently than them. They assume anyone who "disagrees" with them is being paid, or contrary, or performative, or (to put it plainly) faking.
I, unfortunately, have to keep somewhat abreast of AI bullshit because it's so revolting endemic in the field in which I work. Every few months I even give it a test run, because if I don't then I start to feel like I'm the crazy one for rejecting the slop.
But you know what I find every time?
It's shit. It can be superficially successful, but push a little and the facade still turns out to be paper thin.
And yeah, I know, AI is good at finding vulnerabilities in a codebase. Except that quite often, it has come out, the vulnerabilities aren't actually there. It finds real ones, yes, but it "hallucinates" others.
I'm going to stop there because otherwise I'll go on for hundreds of words about what dogshit it really is and what I really think about why people use it. I don't want to do that because I'll just end up in a bad mood.
In March, I was talking to a paralegal who said that way too many of her colleagues were relying on AI and she kept having to correct their errors. The facade really is paper thin. She had an argument with another paralegal, middle aged, who suddenly had trouble figuring things out without AI help, almost overnight. She looked so tired as she said this.
(I want to think of better terms than hallucinate since that's a medical thing. Fabricate? Confabulate? Misinterpret? Misinform? Disinform? Mislead?
Any terminology that employs the active voice is inherently incorrect, because LLMs etc aren't active. (No, not even Claude agents. They just have associated tools to fake it.)
All that's really happening is that the token predictor is working as designed and people are putting their faith into it due to anthropomorphism.
We just don't have the lexicon to talk about this stuff coherently without falling back on technical language. It's a huge problem. We either use technical language and lose people, or use ill-suited general language and mislead each other!
Yes, this is a bugbear of mine.
Perhaps we could borrow a term from elsewhere. "Misfire" might do it? "The LLM exhibits misfiring"?
