My good sis Marly wrote a brilliant essay on beauty, I just wanna share some important fragments with you:

With all my heart, I want beauty to be a restful, organic state of being we are all already luxuriating in. It’s not, though. It’s anything but restful. In fact, to rest is to fall into the abyss once again. Because to rest is to be undone up. To rest is to be unconcerned with how you look. Maybe my favorite sweats fit me terribly and are stained with ketchup, maybe I haven't plucked my chin hairs in a week, and have a couple broken, chipped nails. Maybe I ran out of lotion and am hella ashy. Then what?

For me now, beauty is performance. It’s drag, baby. It rises from the inside out. It shifts with my mood, my frequency, the way I want to be felt in the world. To be sure, it is still also armor, yes. But armor spun with silk and cackles from femmes plotting in the night.

I regret the shame that made me hide her away for one, the delusion that made me lay her bare for the consumption of another. But I no longer mourn the thieves of my harvest. I celebrate this becoming. Beauty now is destined, inevitable, holy. The question is not: do others find me desirable? The question is: do I feel powerful, soft, possible, alive in my body today?
