The World’s First All-Brass Restaurant

Two years ago, the Indian film producer Varun Talreja walked into London’s Seragino restaurant under the guise of booking a dinner party. “The owner’s brother looked at me up and down, and he said, ‘You want to buy the place, don’t you?” Talreja recalls. “I still don’t know how he figured me out because it wasn’t on the market yet, but he said to come back tomorrow.” Fast forward next week, when Talreja and Inaki Aizpitarte, the Basque chef-owner of Paris’s Le Chateaubriand, will reopen the former Mayfair cafe and trattoria as Le Chabanais, an all-day bistro serving lush seasonal fare amidst the clamor and glimmer of a patinated brass dining room.
