Arturo was not born into greatness, nor did he choose the darknessโboth chose him. He was born as a bastard, the son of nobody. His mother, Isabel, was the daughter of a wealthy merchant but had a fickle heart and beauty that rivaled the goddesses of antiquity. A noble man caught her eye one day visiting from the Hapsburg Court in the public market. They began their courtship and it became a passionate love affair that produced a secret love child.ย
Not long after his mother became pregnant with Arturo, her lover left her bed for the promise of wealth and status. For love cannot keep a roof over oneโs head or thrust you into higher social circles. Isabel, now a fallen woman, had to settle for a man who would take her hand in a loveless match: a business transaction that would only result in darkness and death.
Isabel married Gaspar Salazar in the spring after Arutoโs birth. Gaspar agreed to marry Isabel and would adopt the babe Arturo on one condition: Isabel must bear a male heir of their union. While it was not the love match she wanted, Isabel accepted it and gave him a son, Arturoโs younger brother, Esteban. The two brothers were close in age and were inseparable as they grew up. Gaspar doted on Esteban, gave him the best education, and began to teach him the ways of business; while Arturo received an equal education, he was mainly ignored by both his parents. His mother fulfilled her duty to her husband and focused on her rising social status. Gaspar thought very little of Arturo, feeling no obligation to his happiness outside of meeting his basic needs: hunger, education, and shelter.
Esteban would not live long in this life. His early death left Arturo utterly alone in this world, and the Salazar family would be torn apart. Isabel fell into a deep and melancholic depression which she would not recover from. Three years and a day after Estebanโs accident, Isabelย wasted away to her own death. Gaspar became hostile and furious as the years waned by; he took his anger of losing his (only) son out on Arturo. And with great reluctance, Gaspar took Arturo as his new apprentice to carry on the family business.
Gaspar would furiously beat Arturo for mistakes, locking him away in whims on anger. His mood did not change when Isabel passed, it seemed to make it more volatile between Gaspar and Arturo. One night after Arturo came home after spending the night out with friends, Gasparโs mood hung heavy on him. Arturo addressed his father goodnight, and Gaspar smacked him across the face with a crystal drinking glass. It cut him deep to his cheek bone, leaving a lasting scar. Arturo would never confess how he got it, he would claim that it was from a riding accident. Gaspar became a miser and any joy in his heart died the day that Esteban drowned. Gaspar would shout at the boy, confessing that he was a bastard of a whore, and he was never Arturoโs father: shattering the only world young Arturo knew.
Years waned by, and Arturo almost never went back to Gasparโs manor house in the Granda mountains. He stayed in London, enjoying the depravity of the times. He became the notorious underground boxer under the amenity of โThe Great Spanish Mountain,โ by knocking out anyone that dared stepping in the ring.ย
One night whilst drinking late at the pub with his comrades, Arturo caught the eye of a beguiling woman. She had a glass of what looked like red wine and seemed to be alone. Arturo approached her with his debonair smile, she ordered a glass of red wine from himโthat did not taste like wineโthen his memory began to fade. The next morning he wakes up in his townhouse alone with a deep hunger in his belly. The sun burned his eyes and body, it wasnโt until nightfall that he was able to leave his room. He searched for the woman at the bar all night. It was hours before daybreak, and Arturoโs hunger grew inside of him like a deep well. He killed his first human that night, unable to control himself. He drained a fellow student, leaving no blood to spill. And out of the shadows came his sire.
She explained everything, confessing whose blood he drank and what he has now become. Arturo broke down in tears. She did promise him one thing before she turned him in: revenge.ย
Together the woman and Arturo traveled back to Arturoโs home where they found Gaspar toiling around in his empty manor. Arturo unleashed the monster within; years of torture and anger spilled over and Gaspar was the victim this time. Arturo took pleasure in killing the only father he knew, but he did not drink from him. He would rather drink poison than Gasparโs blood.
Arturo took control of Gasparโs business and folded it into the Vampire Clanโs dealings; over the centuries and decades, Arturo has expanded it into a multi-billion earning company and furthering the interest in the Clan. He was named Forbes Magazine one of the Worldโs Top Billionaires, and Peopleโs Magazine Sexiest Man Alive in 2019. He enjoys the NYTimes crossword puzzle, red wine, and the company of his pet cat, Faustina.
As of recently, he has accepted the post of Lunar Cove Town Clerk at the behest of Meena and by urgence of the Clan. It wasnโt on the top of his list of jobs to be held, but since it was Meena who asked (and the Clan that insisted) he took a leave of absence from his company giving his most trusted friend and Clan member title of Acting CEO and moved into the most posh downtown loft in Lunar Cove.ย
His goal as clerk is to help run Lunar Cove and he really came into his own after the Renaissance Faire last July. He was able to help Meena and the town by conducting an investigation and laying a trap for Theodore Moore. Albeit, it was not successful, as Theodore Moore escaped, leaving a wake of dead in his wake.ย
Arturo has become fervently determined to keep Lunar Cove safe for all its denizens. He works closely with the rest of the Lunar Cove council members and the clan to insure not only his position, but also that of his friends and the clutch of vampires that he calls family.ย
