Stjepan Filipović was a Croatian communist activist and a leader in Tito’s multinational anti-fascist Partisan Army.  He was captured by nazi occupiers in 1942.  His execution was carried out by Serbian nazi collaborators.  In the last seconds of his life, as Filipović stood with the noose already around his neck, he thrust his arms out and shouted “Smrt fašizmu, sloboda narodu!” (Death to fascism, freedom to the people!).

‪<Comrade Gramsci> “The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born: now is the time of monsters.” In this interregnum where our people experience fear, hopelessness, and desperation we must stay connected and clear. The same brutal monsters are reorganizing themselves and continue to wage war in different forms against our people. We must remember that we are here to serve our people… and to take necessary time for assessment, reflection, gathering strength and building organization. We must prepare for what is to come and how to respond strategically in ways that advance our class struggle. In the spirit of Comrade Gramsci, may we have the pessimism of intelligence and optimism of the will.
