In defense of Amity and her relationship with Luz
I get that everyone has their own take on Amity and her relationship with Luz , most of peope might just understand things in a wrong way , Lots of them seems to come from watching the show on autopilot ( If they watched it at all ) rather than engaging with what's actually happening ( without being able to not troll ) .
Many of the loudest criticisms fall apart once you look past the most surface level reading.
For example , Some say Amity lost her personality after getting with Luz , Well that's a fan headcanon version of Amity that really doesn't exist , The canon version of Amity never lost her character but she earned it.
she's a loyal friend who cares about the people she loves ( Specially Luz and Willow ) .
People who appreciate her season 1 bully nature must be very cruel in a truly harsh way.
Anyway , today, I'm here to address those non-canon fan made up headcanons covered as misunderstandings :
1- They keep saying Amity bullied Willow constantly for nine years, like it was nonstop cruelty 24/7 , That isn’t really supported by what we actually see in the show. We don’t see years of active torment , we see distance, coldness, and occasional sarcasm tied to the facade she was maintaining.
That doesn’t mean her behavior was okay. It hurt Willow, and Amity later takes responsibility for that. But framing it as relentless abuse for nearly a decade exaggerates what’s shown on screen.
Boscha is consistently portrayed as the one who actively mocks and targets Willow. Amity’s role was more about maintaining social status and emotional distance than actively seeking to hurt her.
Amity acted like a bully. That doesn’t mean cruelty was who she truly was.
2- They keep saying Amity was never able to challenge Luz’s feelings the same way she did on lost in Language, while their statement is not supported by screen:
In season 2 looking glass ruins , Amity was devastated after losing her job at library and told Luz that being around her makes her to do stupid things she wished she never had which led Luz to try to make it up for her and take her membership card back.
In season 2 episode 11 , Amity found out Luz was hiding something that her visit to human realm didn't go well , she could just open Luz’s phone and see it herself but she didn’t want to invade her privacy , Instead at the end , She asked honestly from her and talked to her directly.
In the brawl episode , She suspected that something was weird with Luz , Then she asked honestly from her and listened and understood and promised her to help her pick flowers in her father's anniversary day even though she didn't know much about human realm's rituals.
In Labyrinth runners , They didn’t interact with each other, but Luz was sending messages to Amity , She's the one she was opening herself to and talking to in those desperate times.
Luz typed them so fast that nothing but disturbing things could be understood.
In clouds of the horizon , Luz knew between going with Eda and saving Amity she couldn't choose both, and she chose to go to save Amity.
Even when those 2 are not around each other , Amity is challenging Luz.
3- A fanon claim tied to this is that Luz kept lying to Amity and Amity never noticed , The show directly contradicts this :
In s2 e11 , Amity found out Luz was hiding something and asked honestly from her.
In the brawl episode , Amity suspected that something is odd , Besides , Luz didn’t lie in something like a super obvious way and when she opened herself , Amity listened and understood and supported her.
About Helping Collector , Luz technically didn't lie , She just hid a secret.
Besides , not only Amity didn’t become mad, but she also supported Luz when she needed it.
4- "Luz confessed to Hunter first because she doesn't take Amity serious anymore and Hunter is Amity’s narrative replacement and Luz doesn't take Amity with her to do anything important " , Well that's another wrong take that's not supported by screen either :
Luz talked to Hunter in Thanks to them because he's the first one who found out that Luz helped Belos to meet Collector since they were both in Belos’s mind, and She was the first one who realized that Hunter was actually a grim walker.
There was no confession or anything.
It makes sense that Luz didn’t tell Amity or Willow or Gus because she didn't want them to think that she caused their world to be destroyed and that they might never see their families again.
Honestly , I would probably do the same thing , What Luz did is really realistic take of what a person would do in the real world.
So , saying things like Amity was never able to challenge Luz’s feelings or that Hunter is Amity’s narrative replacement just doesn't make sense.
The show consistently presents the opposite.
5- They keep saying Amity barely interacted with anyone after getting with Luz , These episodes say otherwise :
Season 2 episode Eclipse Lake , episode 11 , The Brawl episode , Labyrinth Runners , Clouds on the Horizon , Season 2 finale episode , All season 3 episodes.
In watching and dreaming , after Luz , Amity was the first one who started bonding with the Collector in Hexsquad.
6- Luz and Amity didn't have many moments between themselves before becoming a couple and barely knew anything about each other:
In these episodes ( the ones before officially becoming a couple ) , we can see they spend time with each other and having their own moments and see more aspects of each other's characters :
Season 1 episode convention , lost in Language, adventures in the Elements, the first day, Understanding Willow , Grom, wing it like Witches.
Season 2 episode Escaping Expulsion & through the looking glass ruins.
In understanding Willow , Luz realized that Amity was forced to end her friendship with Willow and being friends with people she doesn't want to because her parents forced her to.
In season 2 episode Escaping Expulsion, She saw Amity having conflict with her mother and her influence on her life.
Along Azura books , Luz and Amity have these in common : struggling with their real identities and their drama with their mothers and the fact that they lived a life with no friends , before entering the demon realm , Luz lived a life having no friends because the others treated her like a freak in the human realm.
In Amity's case , it was a life having to endure relationships with mean people she didn't want to be friends with.
That wasn't life , It was just surviving in a facade with a mask of fake confidence and arrogance.
Even her own family didn’t really care about her.
Even after Luz and Amity get with each other , They still learn more about each other , In the brawl episode , They find out and learn about each other's fathers and their drama with them.
So yeah , it's wrong to say they're a couple while they barely know anything about each other.
7- Lumity is just a crush and kids can't fall in love :
Luz and Amity had a crush on each other which turned into real love , Most of the romances start with a crush , No couple is perfect in media , But just because love isn't perfect , it doesn't mean it doesn't exist , couples such as Kataang & Catradora had awful moments as well. Lumity's love is mutual and genuine and real. Both of them feel safe and happy with each other.
Who said kids can't fall in love ?
In avatar the last airbender , All the kids fell in love , real love.
In some disney movies such as Aladdin or little mermaid or Snow white , they were kids falling in love.
8- Amity never had a hobby in thanks to them :
Didn’t she already had a hobby from the human realm ? The Azura books ?
Besides , Isn’t being with actual friends and being actually happy and not being afraid of expressing feelings after years a hobby ?
9- In thanks to them , All Amity did was being worried about Luz :
I rewatched the episode and that’s not supported by the screen either.
All those fan made statements Haters keep spreading do not exist since the show consistently presents the opposite.
In thanks to them , All of the Hexsquad went to explore the whole human realm to find the solution for the problem because Luz and Camilla did so much for them in their time in human realm and as Hunter said and Luz already felt disappointed after lots of failed attempts to build a portal , They all wanted to make it up for them , It wasn’t just Amity.
Amity looked worried about Luz sometimes for sure but that's not a bad thing , It's a realistic thing to be worried about your love interest, but that's not like the only thing Amity did.
Being worried about Luz is what all the Hexsquad did.
Whatever those wrong takes are , They just reduce a complex relationship to a very narrow definition.
10- Amity was always the main bully and writers gave her role to Boscha just to make Lumity real :
Screen says otherwise , In Conjuring night , We can see Boscha is the first one making fun of Willow and the others , In Understanding Willow we can see Amity calling Boscha and Skara mean and says she doesn't want to be friends with them , in that episode , Boscha was the one mocking Willow not Amity , In Wing it like Witches , We can See Boscha is the only one who actually wants to hurt Willow and Luz , We can see her gang doesn't want to do it , It was in their faces.
Conclusion : All this time , Boscha was calling out their bad sides.
In the end of that episode , One of the girls asks Willow to join the team and Boscha is worried that Willow might accept the offer.
All of these things are easy to see if you don't limit yourself to what's in front of you and stuck to it and analyze outside the box .
Their reading of haters stops at surface-level traits.
It just proves they never watched the show properly.
11- One of the haters in this fandom told me in season 3 , Amity’s sole motivation to help rebuilding the isles was impressing Luz : This is a simple misunderstanding of the narrative.
Amity is one of the good guys doing her part , That’s it.
It had nothing to do with being a girlfriend.
12- Someone in the fandom said Luz was going to betray Amity and others by leaving the demon realms and her friends physically for good before defeating the Collector and been planning it for months:
It wasn’t betrayal at all , It was just Luz confronting her guilt in a wrong way , She thought that her presence brings suffer for the people she cares about , It was her accepting responsibility of what she did.
Besides , In the video she recorded , She just said that she decided to not go back to Demon realm , she didn’t she was about to do it before saving the isles.
Also , She chose to not to return to the isles just before the Halloween night , not months before that.
13- They saying Amity doesn't have important relationship with anyone else ?
These episodes say otherwise :
Escaping Expulsion , Brawl episode , Labyrinth runners , Thanks to them , for the future , Watching and dreaming.
She's not a bland walking love token , She's a kind and brave individual who is not afraid of being the person she wants to be and the person who protects the people she loves against anyone who tries to hurt them.
Anyone who can think outside the box and not stuck to the surface can see all these.
14- Amity has no story outside her relationship with Luz while that's not supported by the show either :
She still has her own agency outside her romance with Luz :
Fixing her relationship with Willow and protecting her in labyrinth runners so she wouldn't lose her again and learning to see her real strength.
Convincing Willow to help in the grudgby episode , Facing her fear of playing grudby to protect her real friends and stand up to the unreal Friends and making her social life better .
Luz and Willow needed a third player and Amity chose to step in and help even though she didn't really have to.
It was one of her steps to reject the facade she was stuch at for years.
Standing up to Odalia and threatening their business to protect her friends from being expelled .
Breaking the necklace Odalia was using to control her.
Turning her hair into purple in order to fight Odalia's influence.
Bonding with Hunter and learning to not to define herself to what she can provide for the others in Eclipse lake .
Reconnecting with her siblings.
Attending the brawl without her father's permission and then Reconnecting with him.
She even defeated some of the greatest fighters in boiling isles in the brawl.
She almost defeated The golden guard even , in Eclipse lake.
In s2 e11 , She wanted someone to talk to and ask advice from and she went to Willow and remembered that it's been a while she didn't go to her house , Willow even asked her to braid her hair and she accepted , Willow was happy they were the way the used to be again.
In both grom and Knock Hooty's door , We can see her having the fear of being rejected.
Helping the rebellion and fighting Belos.
Confronting Boscha and rejecting her offer to join her band again in for the future .
Reuniting with her siblings and her father in season 3 after worrying about them for months.
Final confrontation of Odalia after she tried to warn her about the day of unity and trying to take the control of her life again by trying to remove Luz from her life only because she wasn't a rich girl or something and cutting ties with her permanently after it turned out that she knew what the day of unity really is.
Before that she wasn’t angry at Odalia for years of abuse or something because she thought that she's just a mother who wanted the best for her family but in a wrong way or something , but after she realized that Odalia knew about the day of unity and was okay with it , she saw her true colors and cut her ties with her permanently.
Final reconnecting with her father in clouds on the horizon.
Taking the leadership role in Thanks to Them.
Taking the leadership role and organizing people in Eclipse lake.
Helping to rebuild the isles.
Trying to find a way to go home.
Becoming so awesome at using abomination.
Challenging Collector's illusion in watching and dreaming.
In watching and dreaming , She even was able to drew a glyph on the ground when she was a puppet , I mean how awesome and powerful is that.
Restored her relationship with her former mentor.
In the epilogue , We can see her becoming an Explorer who travels all around the world and also an abomination engineer and likely the future CEO of Blight industry.
So yeah , Her storyline exists out of romance .
If she was only a gay disaster , she wouldn't have any of that.
Luz has part on most of these adventures because Luz is the protagonist and Amity's love interest. Luz is going to always support and be there for Amity if she can.
Having your love interest to help you and be there for you when dealing with an issue isn't a bad thing , it's called having a great GF.
Her adventures is not just about Luz or Willow or anyone else she cares about , it's about herself and what she really wants , In for the future she said that her wish is to make her own path for life.
15- Amity was never accountable for the things she did and just got away , That’s another wrong superfacial non canon statement .
Amity’s simple but yet perfect redemption deserves recognition.
Amity made mistakes, there’s no denying that. But people often make mistakes before they become better. Redemption is a common theme in storytelling, and Amity’s journey fits that pattern.
People like Zuko , Catra , Gamora , Nebula , Loki , Iroh , Ty Lee , Mai , Kuvira.
Yet in the end, all of them chose a higher path.
She knows she made serious mistakes, bullying Willow or even letting Boscha bulling her and even putting Luz in danger. But instead of denying responsibility or making excuses, she acknowledged her faults and worked to make things right. She helped Willow and Luz defeat Boscha in grudgby, saved Luz’s life, stood up to Odalia to protect her friends from being expelled, and tried to protect Willow in Labyrinth Runners so she wouldn’t lose her again.
After Wing it like Witches , Boscha never Bullied Willow again.
She didn't do those things sooner because she wasn't still brave enough to face the consequences of getting off the facade.
You can see her facing the consequences of her recent bravery from Odalia in Escaping Expulsion episode , She was afraid in that episode.
She was facing the consequences of her bravery.
In Escaping Expulsion , Odalia was punishing her daughter for so called " recent lack of performance in school " .
Imagine what Odalia did when Amity came back home without that " top student badge " 😔.
In Wing it like Witches , If she didn’t interfere sooner , It must be because she wasn’t still brave enough to get off the facade and turn against the rich kid of her mother's rich colleague.
Amity didn’t get away with her mistakes, nor did she live a carefree life. Long before Luz entered her life, Amity spent years trapped in a situation she didn’t want. She endured emotional abuse from her mother, constant social pressure, Boscha and Skara’s mean nature , and even bullying from her own siblings. None of this gave her real confidence, it made her afraid. She wasn’t happy, and she didn’t have genuine friends.
None of that is good for mental health .
She lived a lonely , isolated life filled with fear.
She was getting hurt mentally.
Hiding her real self behind a mask of fake confidence and arrogance.
The humiliation she faced after the witch’s duel and in front of her siblings marked the first cracks in the mask she had been forced to wear.
In Understanding Willow , Amity was terrified to confront the painful birthday memory. But when she finally did, she didn’t excuse her actions. She didn’t say, "My parents were awful, so I had the right to bully you.” If she had, Willow would have been hurt even more, and Amity’s redemption would have meant nothing.
"You were never weak to be my friend. I was weak to be yours.”
That line matters. It shows that she fully accepts responsibility. She understands that, regardless of outside pressure, she still hurt Willow , and that she deserves the blame. She didn’t ask for instant forgiveness; she promised to do better.
Yes, others share some responsibility for how Amity turned out. But that doesn’t erase her accountability. What it does mean is that she deserves a second chance.
Understanding Willow , didn’t just give a her a free jail card , It gave a backstory.
Making mistakes doesn’t mean someone should be punished for the rest of their life.
At the end of Understanding Willow, Willow doesn’t immediately forgive Amity. She may forgive her eventually, but she doesn’t forget, and that’s realistic. Healing takes time, and the show allows that process to feel real instead of rushed.
That’s what makes Amity’s redemption meaningful.
She kinda burned Willow's memory ( although it was an accident ) but she fixed her mistake even though it was an accident.
Even though she knew Willow might not want her in there because of their complicated past.
Amity said " I can't believe i almost erased all this " , This line means she cares and never wanted to end her friendship with Willow.
I remember Aang burned Katara by accident , But he made up for it.
She tried to have Luz dissected ? Yeah , But after that , She saved her life 3 times , First time was in Grom , Second time was in Abomination presentation in s2 Escaping Expulsion , Third time was s2 e11 when Luz was running from Terra.
In understanding Willow , She could just apologize to Willow and leave it at that , but she went out her way and promised to make it up for her.
She could have just save Luz without Confronting her parents , but she spoke her mind , loud and clear , deep down , she always wanted to be a better person , She just needed a spark or courage which happend to be Luz , that's it , she did the rest on her own.
In the Understanding Willow flashback, Amity didn’t just quietly drift away from Willow. She ended their friendship harshly and with yelling. That wasn’t random cruelty. Odalia forced her to end the friendship, but Amity chose to make it look real so Willow would believe it.
If Willow would have known Amity didn’t mean it, she might have tried to reconnect. And if Odalia noticed that, Willow could have become a direct target. By making herself look cruel, Amity ensured Willow would not trying and stay safe.
But here’s the important part: even if her intention was to protect Willow, she still hurt her. And she knows that. She doesn’t excuse it. She doesn’t blame Odalia when she apologizes. She says, “I was weak.” She takes full responsibility for the damage she caused, even though the situation was complicated.
That’s what makes her redemption meaningful. She doesn’t deny the pain she caused. She owns it.
16- One of the fanatic haters says Odalia's abuse is not supported by the screen and it's just an excuse to justify Amity’s mistakes :
What we saw that happend in the backstory scene in Understanding Willow and Escaping Expulsion episodes says otherwise.
What we saw in those episodes was abuse from Odalia and making Amity afraid.
There's only one way to describe the kind of people who don't want to look past the surface or didn't really watch the show :
Calling Amity "ruined” doesn’t say anything meaningful about her , it just shows how little attention they paid to her arc. When a character has real depth, it can look like “nothing” to someone who never looks past the surface.
If Amity feels “empty” to them, that’s honestly not surprising. Complex, well written characters often seem hollow to people who only skim what’s in front of them.
Nothing about Amity was ruined. She evolved, she healed, and she grew. If they can’t see that kind of development, that’s a limitation in their reading, not a flaw in the writing.
It’s pretty ironic to call her empty when they missed nearly every layer that made her one of the most developed characters in the show. If nuance looks like nothing to them, that’s a their problem.
And in the end, the one that's rushed isn't Lumity , it's them.
If they choose to see Amity as " just a girlfriend " , their lack of narrative comprenension is not Amity’s problem.
It's not Amity’s fault those people are stuck at just what's in front of them.
Amity and her relationship with Luz are not ruined.
Those things are not ruined, but those kind of people in the fandom keep trying to ruin them with their superfacial non-stop destructive analysis .
It doesn't make sense to say Amity lost her personality or independence when that bully nature of her was manufactured ( by Odalia ), not self chosen.
She dropped the mask covered as ego after lost in language immediately because that wasn't her real character.
Things such as humiliation after the witches duel and her humiliation in front of her siblings marked the first cracks on her mask covered as ego.
She still had some soft points like reading books for children or allowing Luz to continue studying magic or leaving Grugby after hurting her teammates.
Her redemption is not about timing or how long does it take , She just needed the right pressure which happend to be Luz , The first person who showed her kindness and honesty after years and saw her on the inside.
Facing her past in Understanding Willow episode is another right pressure she needed.
Lumity is one of the important parts of her growth, but it doesn't define her entire existence.
She didn't immediately get off the facade after lost in Language , It took her more that one full season , But after lost in Language , She was in a kind of internal contradiction , Cold on the outside and soft on the inside , she was getting softer in every episode after that and expressing more feelings.
17- They keep saying She lost her intelligence or something : How exactly ?
Being stuck in a facade and hanging out with people you don't want to be friends with and having no one to challenge your feelings or really care about nothing about you except your family name ( Being a Blight ) and hiding your real feelings and your real self out of fear and Being very easily vulnerable based on getting embarrassed in school , humiliation after witch's duel and even getting bullied by your own siblings doesn't look like intelligence.
Hiding your real personality and being controlled by her parents like programming a robot is not intelligence , It’s living a lonely life with fear.
Being stuck in a facade , being isolated from true friends , and being controlled by parents , That's a fate worse than death.
She used to be emotionally vulnerable and super easy to break.
Do you wanna know what's unique about her ? Do you wanna know what her personality trait is? A brave , kind and royal individual with passion who doesn't afraid of being the real herself and protect the people she loves against anyone who tries to hurt them.
As her older sister Emira said , She wasn’t happy before.
18- We saw her panic around Luz ? Sure , But we only saw her obsessed with Luz or saying I'm Luz gf for only one or two episodes , Some people really just exaggerate about that, Besides , It's a normal teenager thing to blush about their crush , It's a crush trait , Not gay trait.
The whole “I’m Luz’s girlfriend” thing she did for one episode, and the number of times she did it was highly exaggerated. Every teenager is obsessed with their significant other when they first get in a relationship. It’s not a writing issue , it’s a very realistic depiction of what someone would do in her situation.
She still has her interests : Library and specially Azura , Abomination, and friendship.
She still has some competitive spirit but she was mentally healthy.
She's a prodigy at abomination for sure , but she never really wanted to become a prodigy or join a coven or something.
She wanted to be a kid having fun with her friends.
In s3 e1 , We can see that she's totally happy , Spending time with her friends , Trying fashion with them , Watching silly movies with them , Playing boardgames with them , riding boat with them , going to movie theater with them , going to beach with her girlfriend , Wearing Halloween customes. She was finally happy. She was being the real herself and embracing her real character.
Her happiness was real and natural.
So it makes zero sense to say she only became a girlfriend with no character or just a gay disaster.
19- Amity lost her personality :
The Amity who lost her personality is just a fanon version of her , not the canon one.
Canon Amity’s development and redemption make sense when you see what she's been through.
Saying she lost her personality doesn't make sense when that bully nature was manufactured by someone else , not self chosen.
Saying things like she suddenly change after 3 episodes or just became a girlfriend with no character or just a gay disaster or saying Luz is her sole motivation to do anything or becoming soft just so she could get with Luz since Grom is just surface level takes.
She dropped the mask immediately after lost in Language because it was never her true nature.
she was consumed and polluted by things such as her mother's abuse , social pressure , mean nature of Boshca for years and even getting bullied by her own siblings , Those things caused her to get consumed by the facade and the mask of fake confidence which led her to even forget her real character and why she was playing the facade in the first place or for example , why she bullied Willow .
Those things didn't give her confidence , it made her afraid.
20 - Some people also claim Amity’s character was “butchered” and reduced to a “gay disaster.” :
This doesn’t really make sense when Amity’s earlier mean behavior wasn’t her true personality to begin with. That behavior was shaped by her mother’s control and social pressure, not by who she actually was. Dropping that mask isn’t losing a character , it’s finally showing her real one.
As for the “gay disaster” label, saying something like that is just being homophobic because blushing, being awkward, and acting nervous around someone you like are normal crush behaviors. Straight characters do this all the time and aren’t accused of losing their personalities. Treating those same traits as a problem only when the character is in a same gender relationship is a ridiculous.
Amity didn’t become weaker, dumber, or less interesting after falling in love. She became more comfortable being herself, and the show clearly treats that as growth, not a downgrade.
Her character is not butchered , She started embracing her real character and improving it.
21- Some people like to say Amity and Zuko are basically the same character from different shows, but that comparison doesn’t really make sense once you look at their motivations.
Zuko chose a dark path because he wanted to prove himself to his father and regain his “honor.” A lot of the harm he caused came from his own decisions. He actively hunted the Avatar, betrayed people who cared about him, and doubled down on the villain’s side even when he had chances to stop. His arc is about unlearning values he genuinely believed in.
Amity’s situation is very different. She wasn’t chasing approval or power, she was surviving. Her mean behavior wasn’t a belief system she chose, it was a facade she put on out of fear. She was controlled by her mother, trapped by social pressure, and scared of the consequences of stepping out of line. The moment that pressure eased, the facade started cracking almost immediately.
If anything, Amity didn’t need to be redeemed from evil beliefs, she needed the safety and courage to be herself.
If there is a Zuko parallel in The Owl House, it’s Hunter. Hunter was openly loyal to the main villain, believed in the system he was raised in, and committed serious wrongdoing in the name of approval. His arc is about realizing that the person he trusted was evil and wrong and then actively turning against that ideology.
So yeah, saying Amity and Zuko are the same character really misses the point of both arcs. They’re telling very different stories. Lumping them together just flattens Amity into something she was never meant to be.
22- They say her development and redemption are rushed :
This ignores the fact that Amity was never truly a bad person on the inside. Even early on, she showed signs of kindness and regret, reading books for children and letting Luz to study Magic and even leaving grudgby after her teammates got hurt , and it was clear she didn’t actually want to be cruel. Her growth doesn’t come from a sudden personality change, but from finally having the courage and support to stop pretending and make better choices.
Public humiliation after witch's duel and her humiliation in front of her siblings were the first things that started breaking her.
And she didn’t just immediately get off the facade , That took more than one season, after lost in Language , Between that episode and understanding Willow , she was in an internal contradiction , Soft on the inside and cold on the outside but she was getting softer and expressing more feelings in every episode after lost in Language , Season 2 Escaping Expulsion was the moment she started getting out of Odalia's control.
It took her more than one season to fully get off the facade.
Because the good was already there, her development feels natural rather than rushed. The show takes time to show her struggling, hesitating, and slowly improving, which makes her redemption believable instead of sudden.
It's not about timing , It’s about the right pressure.
I’ve also seen people say they relate to Amity, which is part of what makes her feel realistic. She may not be written as an extremely complex or tragic character, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Her strength comes from being emotionally relatable, which matters more than having an overly complicated arc. Not every character needs to be written like Catra from She-Ra to be well written, and Amity succeeds at what her story is trying to do.
And I understand why people say they relate to her, because I can relate to Amity myself. I share some aspects of her life experiences, which is part of why her character feels genuine to me.
22- It’s also true that Amity didn’t have to be mean to Willow in season 1, episode 3, and people who point that out aren’t wrong , However, there’s important context behind her behavior. After years of playing the role of a false personality , that being mean had become a habit rather than a conscious choice.
Amity spent years surrounded by people she didn’t want to be with , her bully siblings, her controlling mother, and peers who rewarded meanness. In that kind of environment, negative traits can become learned and normalized. Traits can become contagious.
And before meeting Luz, no one had ever really challenged Amity to question her feelings or behavior in a meaningful way.
Romance doesn't erase her personality , It helped it growth : Her softness ,Her anxiety ,Her friendship ,Her awkwardness ,Her protective instincs .
Those traits were already there , Just buried , A character showing vulnerability is not losing their personality , It's expanding it.
Being soft around Luz doesn't erase or replace her personality , It adds depth :
Her intelligence,Her determination,Her bravery,Her moral growth ,Her friendships.
Lumity never killed Amity’s character , It just helped it to appear.
23 - Some say Amity was annoying in labyrinth runners because she wanted to protect Willow like she's a little baby :
That's so ridiculous and superfacial.
Amity was trying to protect Willow because she didn’t want to lose her again after years of being separated from the friendship with her , But then she learned to see Willow's strength. Willow opened herself to Amity and Amity listened.
People can be weird when they become overprotective , For example : Katara from avatar was overprotective but not because she was being a mother , because she deeply cares about the people around her and tries the best for them.
And that’s not a bad thing , It’s a way to express your love for people.
24 - One criticism that exists is saying Lumity should be more mutual from Luz :
It is mutual from Luz , In 2021 she was expressing a lot of feelings and struggling to express them to Amity , In brawl episode she tried to help Amity in her own way , In clouds on the horizon , She wanted to go with Eda but instead she chose to go and save Amity.
If she's not like always sharing her issues with Amity , That’s because she used to have a habit to not share his inner problems with anyone and confront her issues alone , She was just learning responsibility and being mature in a wrong way , it was all a part of her growth through the entire show which I already explain in another post I made long ago , Explaining that Luz is one of the most amazing protagonists ever with an awesome development.
Anyway , We all have secrets that we might struggle to share with anyone.
25- They say talking to Amity doesn’t add anything to the conversation:
That interpretation doesn’t align with what the show repeatedly demonstrates. Talking to Amity often creates emotional safety that allows other characters to open up.
In Follies at the Coven Day Parade and The Brawl episode , speaking with Amity allows Luz to feel safe enough to express her fears and vulnerability.
In Labyrinth Runners, Amity spends most of the episode trying to protect Willow, acting out of fear of losing her again. That overprotection leads Willow to confront her and ask to be trusted to show her real strength. That moment only happens because Willow feels safe enough with Amity to speak honestly.
26 - Perhaps they have problems with the pacing or lack of screen time ( because of disney's cancelation ) .
