THE BOY.

HE  DOESN’T  KNOW  HOW  OR  WHEN  IT  BEGAN ,   JUST  KNOWS  THAT  IT  DID .     their  bodies  tangle  together ,   his  foot  closing  the  door  behind  them  as  they  tumble  onto  the  bed ,   calloused  hands  cupping  her  soft  cheeks  whilst  peppering  kisses ,   each  becoming  longer ,   passion  dripping  into  them  the  more  given .   he  thinks  his  heart  is  going  to  burst ,   the  way  she  giggles  between  kisses  making  something  within  him  stir ,   irises  dark ,   emotions  clouding  them .  the  situation  is  one  envisioned  many  times ,   touching  her ,   loving  her .   &   it’s  happening ,   here ,   at  this  very  moment .   she  feels  the  same  way .   it’s  no  wonder  his  hands  can’t  stick  to  one  spot ,   grabbing  onto  her  waist ,   running  through  her  hair ,   wanting  to  memorize  each   &   every  inch  of  her  being .   she  is  a  cool  glass  of  water   &   he  is  a  man  parched .before  there’s  time  to  truly  process  the  situation ,   they’re  already  ripping  each  other’s   clothes  off ,   everything  being  thrown  in  a  pile  at  the  floor  by  the  bed ,   roy  trailing  kisses  down  her  neck ,   daring  to  go  lower ,   even  glancing  upwards  to  gauge  a  reaction ,   admiration  swimming  in  his  gaze .   when  he  hovers  over  her  hipbones ,   he  makes  a  show  of  gently  pressing  plump  lips  to  each  one ,   a  small  smile  curling  onto  features .      in  this  moment ,   he  thinks ,   he  could  be  happy .     because ,   fuck ,   how  could  he  not  be  ?

it’s  when  they’re  almost  done   &   he’s  worshipping  her  body  like  something  holy ,   when  a  soft     ‘   i  love  you   ’     escapes  her  lips ,   that  something  feels  off .   body  stiffens ,   brows  furrowing  with  perplexity ,   brain  struggling  to  pinpoint  what  it  is  exactly  that  isn’t  right .   &   just  like  that ,   he  startles  awake  in  a  cold  sweat .   it  takes  ten  seconds  for  him  to  sit  up   &   rub  at  tired  eyes ,   letting  the  dream  sink  in .   he  still  glances  to  his  side ,   hoping  to  see  company  laying  there .   the  bed  is  empty .   the  disappointment  settles ,   &   he  throws  himself  back  onto  the  pillow ,   a  curse  hissed  in  the  night .   he  should’ve  known  better .   something  like  that  wouldn’t  ever  be  real  in  the  first  place .   they’re  only  friends .   he  has  to  remember  that .

          ❛  YEAH, FOR SURE.   i mean,  you don’t really look like a roy,  but it still suits you.  that’s what my first impression is saying,  anyway.  i don’t really know you yet,  so i might have changed my mind by tomorrow.  you should ask me again then.  ❜     anya smiles,  grateful she has a moment to just …  talk.

          ❛                                 not really.  it was given to me by a nurse at a hospital a few years ago.  i don’t remember anything from my childhood,  not even my own name,  so anya just kinda stuck.   ❜

❝      I’LL  BE  SURE  TO  DO  THAT  THEN .      ❞        timbre  is  raspy ,   a  hint  of  confidence   &   perhaps  even  a  sliver  of  exuberance .   the  concept  of  having  someone  around  when  he  wakes  is  a  comforting  one   ;   it  invokes  a  flutter  of  hope .   loneliness  has  been  engulfing  him .   it’d  be  less  empty  in  this  big  house  with  another  sharing  his  space .   yet ,   there’s  a  bit  of  shame   &   guilt  that  trickles  in  his  chest ,   tainting  the  sweetened  emotions .    is  he  truly  selfish  enough  to  purposely  leave  someone  innocent  in  his  little  drug  den  ?

ROYLAND.     IT DOESN’T SUIT HIM.     she’s almost happy his name is just roy,   the way hers is just anya.     a smile traces her lips,   a joyous breath escaping for the first time in forever.     she has a house,   a roof over her head,   and although she might only be there for a night or two,   it’s more than she’s ever had.

❝                   yeah.     but i think roy suits you just fine.  ❞

BOLD  BROW  RAISES ,    almost  doubtful  of  the  statement .   he’s  never  been  sure  of  anything  that  involved  his  life .   family ,   friends ,   existence .   his  name  is  no  exception .

          SHE WATCHES HIM TAKE ANOTHER SIP OF HIS DRINK,    leaning back in her chair while studying him.  there’s something wrong.  or if there isn’t anything wrong,  there’s been a change in him.  a shift,  somewhere,  but anya can’t put her finger on it.  his voice is still raspy but warm  ( to her,  at least )  and he’s here,  in front of her,  but she can almost feel the distance he has creating between them growing for each word they say.     ❛              it could be.  ❜     it’s clear she’s not talking about marcus anymore         it could be that simple,  roy,  if you only talked to me!

          in hindsight,  perhaps roy would have opened up to anya earlier if she had been as honest with him as she had wanted him to be with her.  it’s a two way street          treat people the way you want to be treated.  she hums,  fingers nervously picking at nails on the other hand,  and tries to meet roy’s gaze.     ❛  be honest with me:  are you okay?  ❜

FEATURES  CONTORT ,  A  FLICKER  OF  A  PAINED  EXPRESSION .    something  within  him  threatens  to  burst ,   grasping  at  his  lungs   &   squeezing ,   suffocating .   the  glass  remains  raised  as  an  afterthought ,   poised  to  return   &   amalgamate  with  chapped  lips  should  the  thirst  arise  once  again .     (   it  never  ceases .   )     the  inquiry  is  cogitated  with  care ,   the  seconds  ticking  between  them ,   the  silence  a  ringing  in  own  ears .     are  you  okay  ?     umber  hues  blink .   once ,  twice .     he’s  not   ━   he’s  not  sure .

he  stays  quiet  for  some  time ,    really  processing  what  she’s  said .   &   in  this  moment ,   he  can’t  agree  with  her  more .   so ,   when  lips  part  in  reply ,   he  attempts  to  not  sound  forceful ,   like  he’s  trying  to  make  her  stand  his  presence  more  than  she  already  has  to .

❝     look ,   i  don’t  know ,   maybe  that  someone    .  .  .    could  be  me .     ❞       hopes  aren’t  high ,   expecting  a  rejection  a  in  an  instant .    (   he’s  never  been  good  with  love .   so ,   he  doesn’t  expect  himself  to  be  a  casanova  now .   )

this  invokes  a  pause ,   mind  going  to  farther  planes .    he  recalls  a  time ,   a  dark   &   complex  period  in  his  life ,   whilst  holding  his  father’s  urn ,   a  mere  whisper  spoken  between  the  nothingness .       ‘   i’m  sorry  we’re  alone .   ’       he’s  never  experienced  a  semblance  of  togetherness   ;   he  realizes  this  now ,   mind  reeling  from  the  euphoria   /   afterglow  of  melding  his  lips  to  hers .    (   so ,   maybe  anya’s  right .   maybe  he  does  taste  like  the  empty   &   unfulfilling  life  he’s  lived .   he  can’t  find  it  in  himself  to  disagree .   )

slowly ,   he  nods ,   features  vacant ,   corners  of  lips  pulling  upwards  into  a  weak  smile .   &   a  low   /   nervous  chuckle  escapes  him  then ,   a  hand  coming  to  ruffle  the  hair  at  the  nape  of  neck .   even  in  a  moment  as  intimate   &   unspoken  as  this  one ,   she  manages  to  read  parts  of  him  he’s  never  shared  with  anyone .       ❝     ━━━    maybe  that’s  because  it’s  how  i’ve  always  been .     ❞
