“You can’t fix him” Shane never needed to be fixed. The farmer is simply just there for him, which helps him see more light in the world and gives him support while he’s working on himself. All the steps he takes to better himself are completely his own. “Well I just don’t wanna be his therapist.” You don’t have to he literally gets therapy. In my opinion, the entire point of his arc is that you’re not fixing him. He’s recovering in a very natural way. As for post marriage, just because his recovery isn’t linear doesn’t mean he relapsed. It just means that concerned ape put care into making his arc realistic. While, I do agree there are some game design aspects that could be changed to make this a little bit more clear, that’s true for every marriage candidate in some way. It’s so weird how people single Shane out for that. He’s going to be depressed some days it doesn’t just magically go away, but he says himself that he’s so much happier once he’s healing. People act like he should come out of recovery a completely different person but at the end of the day, he’s still Shane and that’s a big reason why I love him so much. Often times you’ll see characters go through big arcs and kind of become a shell of themselves because they’re doing better but Shane is still extremely Shane. Regardless if he has healthier coping mechanisms and is healing, he’s still the same man who spends his weekends standing in front of the microwave. If you don’t like that part of him post marriage that I fear you probably didn’t really like him that much in the first place.

I really tempted to now though so expect some Shane stardew valley and Jason Todd probably at some point
