Okay so I’ve had this thought for a while now, and since it’s Mermay I thought “why the hell not?”
So Tohru & Kyoko live on this little seaside town, and their house is right by the ocean, so it’s just a brisk walk to get to a small dock to view the ocean. Now, Tohru is about 5, and she decides to go down to the dock to watch the ocean. Lucky for her, a few rowdy siren boys are in a tussle, and as she’s sitting quietly on the dock, siren boy A (Yuki) punches siren boy B (Kyo) straight up through the dock, sending both Kyo and Tohru flying. Tohru gets knocked out, and Yuki has to pull Kyo by the tail back into the sea so they don’t get exposed.
It’s been a long time since the incident, and Tohru has long since forgotten about it (she didn’t see much at all to begin with, so what is there to really remember?). Kyoko is dead by now, due to a drowning accident. Miraculously, Tohru has been able to keep the seaside house, keeping it clean and managing very well. Uo and Hana live in the same town (thank God for that) and visit pretty much every day to make sure Tohru is okay and not overworking herself. They even spend the night sometime.
Anyway, it’s not something Tohru has noticed before, but there’s a tiny island a few hundred yards out from the dock. It’s your usual island, lots of land, lots of vegetation (enough to hide something big). Nothing too out of the ordinary. By then Uo and Hana have noticed the island too and are extremely intrigued. (Okay, in this AU Uo/Uo’s family has a boat. Just go with it) They decide to go check it out just for the fun of it. They split up to go explore the island, which is slightly larger than they initially thought. Tohru goes off on her own and stumbles upon the fated traditional house in the middle of the nowhere. She peeks inside to found a very dark inside, and...weirdly damp at the ceiling? She shrugs it off, not wanting to intrude too much if people did happen to be living there. She heads back to shore, where they (as in Uo and Hana) decided where they would meet back up after a while. It’s still pretty early in the day, so why not relax a bit? It’s a fairly nice day and the bugs have had mercy for a bit so a short nap couldn’t hurt.
Of course, Tohru being...well, Tohru, went to the wrong shore (though I can’t blame her. Islands can be very confusing) so Uo and Hana are at the other side of the island...Wonderful. Tohru eventually wakes up from a very pleasant nap, and scans her surroundings. It’s getting to be a little dark, but nothing too concerning. Though what is concerning is that she doesn’t hear or see Uo and Hana anywhere nearby (poor Tohru). She’s almost sent into a panic until she sees a figure heading towards shore, a head just slightly poking above water so it can still see (at least that’s what Tohru thinks). Eventually it’s at shore, dragging itself onto the already damp sand from the tides. At first Tohru can’t tell if this person nearly drowned or if they’re some sort of...scuba diver?
Nothing is really made clear until Tohru and the figure lock eyes, and Tohru sees a large silver fish tail, small fins at the elbows, and vaguely solid color eyes that have the faintest glow...
(I’m going to leave this here and let you piece everything together. Most of this was written write on thought, so it’s very messy and not very good. BUT, it’s Mermay so this must be done).
