*   ⸻    GISELLE COULDN’T WAIT for the weekend , and her perfectly manicured nails impatiently tapped on the desk as she just wished it to be lunchtime already . “ oh ! good morning ! ” , her eyes shifted from the screen of her computer to the person passing by , but a frown quickly formed in her face . “ you don’t look great . ” , her words might have sounded a bit harsh , but it was true . they didn’t look their best . “ are you sick or did you have a big night last night ? ” , while she was suggestive , she still wore a straight face , blinking her eyes almost innocently .

AURI ALWAYS PRIDED herself on looking her best, always. which was why a frown took over her glossy lips when she heard the other tell her she looked anything other than perfect. sure, she had gone to sleep at 4 in the morning the day before because she had been trying to design a dress and, sure, she didn’t hear her alarm clock the first three times it rang so she had to get choose between getting ready in a hurry or actually eating something before taking the metro that morning, but she was sure she looked homeless chic and not rough. ❝ you know, that’s rude. ❞ she said, deciding to take the humorous approach. ❝ maybe i was eaten by a ghost yesterday and had to fight my way out of their surprisingly solid body. maybe you’re just making me remember the trauma i had to go through, did you ever think of that ? ❞ her tone was dry, but the amused smirk growing on her lips made it obvious she wasn’t really offended.

❝ first of all... thank you, oh so kind person, for giving me permission to talk about whatever i want in my own free time. so nice of you to do that. ❞ aylin started, struggling not to roll her eyes. ❝ it’s just so weird to me how many people feel like they can tell me, a liberated, single, carefree ( kind of ) woman in the 21st century how i should be living. ❞ the brunette scoffed, before continuing. ❝ not even my father thinks he can tell me what to do, so it’s ironic people who didn’t even contribute to anything in my life to think i suddenly care about their opinions on it. like the legends and modern thinkers beyoncé, kelly and michelle said once: ‘do you pay my bills ? i don’t think you do, so you and me are through.’ so, thank you. but i don’t think i’ll be ranting today. ❞

“ dug my own grave, man. first mistake was going celtic instead of greek. ” even roman would’ve been better, a fact she knew very well by now. “ goddess of war, death, and fate. pretty much decided who lived and who died in battle. called her ‘the phantom queen,’ ” she droned as if it actually mattered. as if auri would actually care who the morrígan was. she’d been saving her breath on it for a reason. “ she is pretty hot. doesn’t actually have many pictures, but… ” and another thing: the celtic goddess she chose wasn’t even the most popular one. just the coolest. just the most ominous. just the most sadistic. “ well, feel free to take my place and just check out what all the fuss is about. ” oh, the money she would give for someone to take her place in that moment ! more money than she’d spent on the damn outfit that she hadn’t even thought through – it looked cool, but literally no one knew who she was. literally no one. not that that could even compete with everything else at that moment, but it was still annoying ! not at the people who didn’t know who the morrígan was, but the fact that she hadn’t put two and two together ! “ y’know, i don’t know if i’m actually down for twerking to bach right now – fun as it sounds. ‘one of those days’ is, like… including just waiting for someone to, like… offer up some heroin or something. ” she made jokes, but she would try it ! right now, at least ! usually, she’d be smart enough to not touch it with a ten foot pole, but in that moment ? oh, totally ! “ but you, medusa, go have fun turning those men to stone. ”

AURI DIDN’T HAVE the heart to tell alice that she probably wouldn’t recognize any greek inspired outfit any better than she did a celtic one, so she just nodded in agreement.❝ i’m sure you enjoy being a mystery, anyways. ❞ auri joked, starting to sway to the melody. she was probably off beat, not that different than how she danced even sober, but she didn’t really care. ❝ that’s bad ass. the only reason i chose medusa is because she’s also cool so we really do match on this one. ❞ medusa wasn’t known as the phantom queen and she didn’t really have the best reputation, but she turned people into stone and that was all auri needed to know. ❝ alice. you know i love you, right ? because i do. but i’d never. seems like a drab. ❞ perhaps this wasn’t the best way to approach someone who had just told her she had been having a bad day, but auri had never been one to filter herself. ❝ heroin is not cool babe. if you want to do drugs, do cocaine or something... i don’t know. in any case, i’m not really in the mood of dancing alone so... come with me, please ! we can turn men into stone together, you tell me who to kill and i’ll do it ! ❞ 

gwen pursed thoughtfully, nodding her head. “now i understand you.” maybe only a little bit. a little bit was better than the not at all she’d been facing before. auri didn’t seem like a bad person - she just seemed to be on a complete different page than gwen. maybe even a completely different book, or genre. “… sure. one won’t hurt.” she’d played while more intoxicated - maybe she hadn’t played well (also relative, considering she’d gotten compliments up the ass) - but she could still play. “what’s your drink of choice?”

❝ ARE YOU A party girl, ms. gwen ? ❞ she asked, her eyebrows wriggling teasingly. she couldn’t imagine the same girl who had almost seemed offended to ditch work to get some pastries with her as one who would enjoy any kind of parties -- but, hey, people were complex ! ❝ i wasn’t really planning on stopping with just one shot, but i’ll let you off the hook. i’m kind of surprised she accepted without even really thinking about it. ❞ auri gestured towards the rapidly filling open bar, before continuing. ❝ i was thinking tequila, but i’m down for whatever you want. ❞

           galas  never  made  sense  to  him  .  sure  ,  he  understands  donating  to  charity  (  especially  those  who  had  more  than  enough  money  than  they  needed  for  themselves  )  ,  but  he  didn’t  understand  what  the  show  was  for  .  he  didn’t  understand  the  expensive  clothes  and  the  need  for  renting  out  most  of  the  plaza  hotel  ,  but  he  guesses  only  the  ultra  rich  would  truly  know  the  answer  .  hanbin  ,  during  his  time  at  masters  ,  has  perfected  his  ability  to  feign  interest  in  topics  he  didn’t  care  about  and  he  especially  learned  how  easy  it  was  to  pull  wool  over  someone’s  eyes  (  especially  when  they  were  ridiculously  out  of  touch  )  .  to  a  couple  in  the  corner  ,  he  was  a  start - up  founder  and  to  the  woman  in  the  ugly  hot  pink  dress  ,  hanbin  owned  a  large  stock  in  some  company  he  googled  earlier  in  the  night  .  sure  ,  he  knows  lying  is  bad  ,  but  he  can’t  help  himself  .

           it’s  the  same  way hanbin  likes  to  mess  with  aylin  whenever  the  two  come  into  contact  with  one  another  .  it  was  rather  easy  to  ,  especially  with  the  way  her  complexion  often  flushed  or  turned  a  soft  shade  of  red  whenever  they  spoke  with  one  another  .  he  brings  his  glass  back  to  his  lips  ,  taking  a  sip  and  resting  the  glass  against  his  cheek  for  a  second  .  ‘  ah  ,  they’ll  get  over  it  .  he  won’t  remember  my  face  come  tomorrow  .  ’  hanbin  gives  a  rather  childish  wave  with  a  shit - eating  grin  as  the  man  walks  away  ,  shoving  his  hand  down  into  his  pocket  .  his  shoulders  roll  up  into  a  shrug  at  aylin’s  question  .  ‘  i  make  the  most  of  it  .  when  is  the  next  time  i’ll  be  able  to  network  like  this  with  michelin - starred  chefs  or  anyone  else  all  within  the  same  room  ?  and  ouch  .  my  ego  may  be  big  but  at  least  i’m  aware  of  that  .  ’  his  right  eye  closes  in  a  quick  wink  .  hanbin’s  not  joking  either  .  even  with  the  headpiece  and  faux  tears  on  his  face  ,  hanbin  knew  how  to  talk  .  ‘  what  ?  i  can’t  compliment  you  ?  what’s  up  with  the  long  face  ?  ’  his  ability  to  tease  her  even  after  being  something  of  a  shithead  is  completely  unmatched  .  ‘  thanks  ,  and  what  are  you  drinking  ?  i  could  get  you  a  refill  ,  or  get  you  started  .  ’

ONCE UPON A TIME, aylin had known how to process emotions in a healthy way. she wasn’t really sure when things changed so drastically for her ( maybe it was when everything happened back in high school ), but nowadays she always needed to be in control. the plaza was beautiful, a sign of wealth and privilege as it had always been. most of the people looked the part, strutting around the place like they owned it, like the extravagant way they were dressed was a normal day-to-day occurrence -- she had been walking around the exact same way. but things always came crashing down and she couldn’t help but feel rattled. it wouldn’t have been so bad if she only had to deal with pretending she belongs between all of these people but she was now also trying not to be consumed by hanbin’s overwhelming presence. she caught herself nervously toying with her hands and hastingly separated them. she couldn’t let anyone know she was anxious.

she had been so lost in her own head that she almost didn’t hear hanbin’s reply, almost didn’t see the way he teased the couple he had been talking mere seconds ago, but she didn’t miss it -- just like she didn’t miss the annoyance taking over her body. she straightened her posture, head held high, before admonishing him. ❝ you shouldn’t forget you’re here representing the company. you shouldn’t be acting like this. ❞ her words sounded pointless to her own ears, however. if there was something she had learned since she started working at masters was that most of the people didn’t really know what professionalism meant. ❝ ah, so you mean you kiss ass ? in any case, it’s good that you are aware of your overgrown ego. awareness is the first step. ❞ her tone was teasing, even though she meant most of what she had just said. ❝ sure you can. ❞ her blush was starting to stain her cheeks again and she reluctantly looked him in the eyes -- she couldn’t let him think he was intimidating or something. ❝ it’s just that somehow i don’t think you mean it. ❞ aylin held his eyes for a few seconds before scanning the room once more. ❝ not a long face just... you know, tired. ❞ a forced smile took over her glossy lips and she struggled to keep it there after he talked about getting her something to drink. ❝ ah, i don’t... i’m not drinking tonight. i have work tomorrow and i’d rather not show up hangover. ❞

given that auri was essentially cocaine in human form ( not due to any drugs she did – that wasn’t alice’s business unless auri so longed for it to be – rather because she just gave off that energy ), perhaps she could be a temporary fix. go on, ghost of frank sinatra ! go on ! “ kinda hard to see anyone under the headpieces, yeah ? ” what was meant to be a joke about all the gaudy outfits ( including her own ) taking away… really any obvious indicators may have fallen flat, she wasn’t sure – time would tell… but it wasn’t her best, dammit ! watching auri attempt to pirouette while drunk did cause a slight smile – again, cocaine in human form. “ i mean, at least they’re just as badass as medusa and the morrígan. question: you ever even heard of the morrígan ? ” a question that was not meant to be a dig at auri, rather her own odd decision. cool goddess ! just not well-known enough ! a slight, breathy laugh was offered in response to auri’s question. not enough to change any other facial features, but hey ! something ! “ man, you ever just have one of those days ? ” or weeks ? but especially days – this one had not shaped up.

❝ NOT SURE THE headpieces are my biggest problem right now. ❞ she giggled, hoping she wasn’t slurring her words. her eyes were still a little blurry, so she winked a few times to try and clear it a little. ❝ never heard of her, nope. ❞ she popped the p on her last word wondering if she had actually heard of her but forgot all about it. to tell the truth, auri was never one for mythology. she hadn’t been obsessed with percy jackson in middle school like everyone else had been -- probably because she couldn’t stay quiet long enough to finish a book. ❝ she looks hot, though, if that’s what you’re dressed as. ❞ she dropped her now empty champagne flute in the table closest to her before giving her blonde friend all of her attention. ❝ no. ❞ was her scandalized reply, before she continued, ❝ and honestly now is not the time either. c’mon, stop that dumb shit right now. ❞ she gently shook alice’s shoulder, green braids waving behind her. ❝ it’s fun time. you’re not supposed to be a party pooper. we should be twerking to bach right now. ❞
