sleep was something that usopp came by easily, but there were times after having parties that the young man found it hard to just drift into the land of dreams. this was one of those particular nights as they had had a wonderful time as a crew just enjoying each other's company with great food and drinks to go with it.

so, as he heard others in the men's quarters sleeping, he turned to see if his captain was one of them.

he had been tiling the garden so that he could start planting new herbs when he heard the footsteps of his crewmate coming closer to where he was. so, with a swipe of the back of his hand against his forehead to wipe away the sweat of the midday sun, he turned.

this is too much. i can’t stand much more of this.

beetles and spiders were one thing, but when it came to the flies and gnats that were riddling the kitchen, usopp had about enough of them as well. he was listening to sanji's complaining and began to make a list of what to get at the next port to take care of their pest problem.

did you enjoy life when you were a child?

that was a question that usopp never thought he'd be asked, and for it he would lean back from where he was sitting with a sigh that left his throat. he knew that his childhood wasn't easy, but then again he did have people who cared about him, so it wasn't all that bad.

"there are times when i still miss my mom," he started out as he fiddled with his pants thinking about her cooking and the way she would laugh when he brought home a lizard or spider. those were the memories he would take with him until the day he died. "she was a good person, she didn't deserve to go out the way that she did.." he then turned to sanji. "she got sick and there was nothing the doctors could do for her.."

that was the sole reason he despised his father, he should have been there for them, he should have come home for her when she got that bad, but he didn't.
