i haven't heard anyone talk about the horror of severance and i wanted to highlight that with the piece! it's also the 1st time i painted & i likes it so i hope u will too :)

CAPTION: Crows and deer are sometimes pictured as companions; the antlers of a deer provide a perch. There is a sameness to their species, and they share a symbiotic relationship in which they might warn each other of predators, groom the other, search for food, and provide merit by not letting the other be alone. But birds can fly. Crows like shiny things, and to speak. They don’t need the deer, and the crow will never forget. When the deer is dead, the crow will eat the meat, and they will eat the memory.

Gihun is memorialized in cherry blossoms, like a sculpture bust in a museum exhibit. The primary base color swatches are located on the side of the portrait because he is a composed image (a memory), rather than a documentation. There’s an intimacy in evidence of craft.

Inho cherishes his memory and holds it reverently because he recognizes its brittle nature. He has the capacity for gentleness, although that does little to alleviate grief or regret.

The cherry blossoms represent the temporary nature of things that make up life (people, love, hate, fear, etc.) and can sometimes reference first love.
