I put together some really cheap and easy to make homemade dipping bars for a total cost of ~ $25, but they could be made for less (mine are a little over engineered). They are very simple and took very little time to make (especially if you let the glue dry) and are very strong. I designed them to work with the doorway chinning/pullup bars a lot of people have. However, they could be used without having a doorway chinning/pullup bar but you would need to screw two strong threaded eye ring bolts about two feet apart into the top of the doorframe (on the side opposite to its opening direction) to attach the carabiners to, or in a ceiling beam very close to a wall. The dipping bars can be put up and taken down in seconds.
Parts needed: three pieces of three foot lengths of 1.5" diameter PVC pipe; 2 PVC pipe 'T' joints, 2 large carabiners, some 5/16" nylon rope; some PVC pipe weld/glue and some regular glue. What to do, cut one of the PVC pipes to about 2" less than shoulder width (the PVC pipe 'T' joints add a little width so the dipping bars then come out at shoulder width. Cut about 8-10" off the lengths of the other two pipe sections (these pieces go in the outer sockets of the 'T' joints to make the pipe section wider than the door frame. Assemble as show in the photo with PVC weld/glue for strength on the joints; drill two 7/16" holes one at the back and one at the front of each the dipping bar as shown in photo. Then use four approximately 40” lengths of 5/16" rope (optimum length depending upon the height of your door frame) to attach the bars to the carabiners. I just used large knots at each end and added some glue to stop them ever undoing/pulling through the PVC tubes. You must use four separate pieces of rope so the rope can't flow through the carabiners. The bars would probably be fine with 1.25" pipe especially for lower body weight users. As a refinement you can add some tubular foam pipe insulation over the ends of the PVC pipe sections that overlap the door frame to prevent any marking of the frame and inhibit minor lateral movement that could occur when in vigorous use.
