This is just a massive appreciation post to all the artists out there who draw Elriel, you are such a blessing amongst the fandom and I wanted to put a bunch together to enjoy collectively. There are so many more out there that are phenomenal but I had to cap it somewhere and 94 ended up being the number ♥️

This EPIC masterpiece was drawn by the talented @/clarywhy on Instagram, commissioned by me! Working with her has been my pleasure, she captured my vision perfectly.

This was inspired by the original Truth-Teller scene but with a twist! I am sure we haven’t seen all about Elain and her powers of seer are still a complete mystery. One of my theories is that Elain’s powers will be related with life, as Nesta as were with death! This idea was born between a canon scene and a future head canon of mine! In the final battle against Koshei, Elain has to use her life/seer powers again, Azriel gives her TT once more. They share a charged moment, an “I love you”. A moment of peace in the midst of the battle.

I also wanted Elain in a dress, to show that just because you wear a dress or you aren’t the typical warrior, it doesn’t mean you are week or are less of a fighter. Everything can be done while wearing a dress! And that strength can be found in all places.

I know some of you thought that would be like trying to solve a crossword and realizing there’s no right answer BUT…you played it good & right. Congrats pals, you guessed the correct titles and feature artists on Red (my version). The vault tracks will feature Chris Stapleton, Phoebe Bridgers, Mark Foster and the first song Ed Sheeran and I ever wrote together the first time we met in 2012❗️I can’t express my gratitude enough to these artists for helping me bring these songs to life. I can’t wait til we can dust off our highest hopes and relive these memories together. We’ll also be making a bunch of new ones too, since Red (Taylor’s Version) includes so many songs you haven’t heard yet. Til then, I’ll be counting down and picturing it all in my head. In burning red.

Many fans and authors have come to think that a woman being sassy here and there and being able to fight is  personality. They’ve come to think that a woman training and kicking ass is the only kind of strength that exists.

And this is exactly why I like Elain. Yes, she is soft, she is a ‘flower’ etc. In ACOWAR she was a damsel in some ways. She is taken away and Azriel went to save her. Do you know when she snapped out of her fear? When Briar was in danger. When Azriel was being hurt. The girl had her hands and her legs ind bonds and she grabbed Briar and kicked the hounds bloody. And it’s not because she is a badass warrior queen. It was adrenaline. It was the drive to save those who needed saving.

Towards the end she didn’t even want to hold a knife to potentially defend herself. But when Nesta was in danger? She didn’t hesitate. 

Many women find strength in being physically strong and in wielding weapons. In feeling that they can defend themselves. Elain wants peace, beauty, she wants to tend gardness, to travel at some point, she wants to love and to be loved, she wants to be seen, she wants to be the master of her fate. Overall, she wants all those things that make life beautiful.

Some of these things (being a pretty wife), was all she was being raised for and of course facing poverty, war and trauma or even finding her voice after being smothered all her life has been a proccess but her development is already apparent.

Another thing is that this is a woman who had visions and thought she was crazy. She was a prisoner in her own head. She thought her mind was the enemy. And yet once she was told that she is a seer she managed admirably to control her reactions to her visions and to stop sinking. And shall we remember that she is not having plesant visions? She was hearing Vassa screaming in her head. It’s implied that she had watched Cassian diying, or at the very least being close to death. Her mental strength is a thing to behold in my opinion.

It’s kind of discouraging, reading posts written by women that are exclusionary to different kinds of strength that women demonstrate.

By the way, I am not saying that there is anything wrong with a woman kicking ass. I am just saying we have come to focus on this kind of empowerment too much and reduce anything that reminds us of roles that were traditionally attributed to women. We reduce a woman who doesn’t like fighting, who tends gardens, who likes cooking… but there was never anything wrong with any of that. The only thing wrong was that they became stereotypes and women were not allowed to challange them.

I want to try and spread as much positivity to the Elain stans and Elriel shippers as I possibly can

ACOWAR Chapter 24 “Elain sat silently at one of the wrought-iron tables, a cup of tea before her. Azriel was sprawled on the chaise longue across the gray stones, sunning his wings and reading what looked to be a stack of reports—likely information on the Autumn Court that he planned to present to Rhys once he’d sorted through it all. Already dressed for the Hewn City—the brutal, beautiful armor so at odds with the lovely garden. And my sister sitting within it.”

And then wrote THIS….

“Shadows darkened his eyes, full of enough pain that she couldn’t stop herself from touching his shoulder. Letting him see that she understood why he stood in the doorway, why he wouldn’t go near the fire.His secret to tell, never hers.”

AND THIS…

“Because her mate had been in the family room and Azriel had needed to stay by the door the whole time because he couldn’t stand the sight of it, the sight of their mating bond, and needed the option of leaving if it became too much.”

Sarah, you ain’t slick.

The first quote could obviously be referring to Graysen, but as others have mentioned in their own posts, it could potentially be foreshadowing for Azriel, too. SJM loves her double meanings.

Like solstice in ACOSF, the second passage also shows Azriel standing at the doorway, when Lucien was in the room with Elain and the rest of the IC. I think he's been avoiding seeing them together since Elain was Made, and Lucien came to Velaris.

So I don't feel that he is 'obsessed' with her. I actually think that he is rather rational and controlled when it comes to Elain. An example of obsessed behavior is Tamlin towards Feyre. Azriel is aware of his feelings, and spent a YEAR trying to avoid her as much as he could, missing family gatherings and staying at HOW, in order not to create problematic situations for everyone. That's not an obsessed behavior--I feel that it's a person falling in love with someone, realizes that a relationship might be wrought with issues and is trying to fight it.

I think his behavior with Mor is much more obsessive (at least we are led to believe, because we don't have his POV on that), since he never acted on it. Here, with Elain, we have a situation where the opportunity presented itself and he went for it. I think the difference is that with Mor, he lived side by side, often in the same house for FIVE HUNDRED years and didn't avoid her and didn't make a move--could be that his feelings were not as strong for Mor, as Rhys, for example, thought, or that Azriel idolized her and accepted that nothing would happen. Or he knows her sexual preference and left her alone. With Elain, it's more real, because he feels like he'd have a harder time actually controlling himself, considering that there is also reciprocation from her.

With Gwyn--I mean, anything can happen, right? So yes, hypothetically, could it happen? Sure. I think it would be weird, if he goes from dreaming about going down on one woman and imagining himself inside of her, to swiftly moving onto a different woman. I think SJM would have do a lot of writing and explaining as to why Elriel are suddenly not into each other, when she just wrote that this longing/pining/offer/permission.

NOTE: As some of you may know, there’s been a bunch of chaos in the fandom recently due to a buildup of different things, and I know that it’s been extremely taxing for some in the elriel fandom (and others as well, probably).

So, I thought that it’d be nice to brighten up some spirits + spread some love for my favorite girl (since she doesn’t get nearly enough love) !!

I’m going to keep it simple and just post some of my favorite quotes of Elain’s + my favorite ones discussing her character just to spread a little bit of love every now and then !! :)
