Tomorrow is the Super Bowl and I am pained and conflicted about wanting watching it. As convenient as it would be for me to blame New England for some-yet-undiscovered-way-they–cheated-their-way-into-it again, I’ve only watched 2 quarters of a game (AFC championship game) this year and I would be a liar if I said that I didn’t miss it. Last year I watched none of it until the last 2 quarters of the season because I’m with the mob of everyone that hates the Patriots. Tbh, I want to follow along because it’s a cultural moment and I want to see everyone on Twitter shitting on Maroon 5. If you love watching it, I’m not judging you. I made a choice to stop watching (most of) it. When I used to watch it, the Raiders never seemed to win or lose when I wanted them to go one way or the other, but it was fun. Now, when I watch it, I can’t reconcile my personal values conflicting with the bad things that the league (and their rich corporate owners) have done, condoned, or that they’ve turned a blind eye to. Colin Kaepernick getting banned for kneeling against police brutality was the final straw, though it took me a minute to see what was going on. The Ray Rice situation always bothered me and I should’ve been out by then (tl;dr, the league mildly punished this player for knocking out his girlfriend and were shamed into doing more when TMZ put up the video tape). I’m with Kaep. If you’re watching it tomorrow, have fun and stay safe! https://www.instagram.com/p/BtaDeabnV6h/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=tq9p73d1n3yw
