if they knew the world was lies

i remember jumping rope

now tie it in a noose to cope

razor scooters hurt my ankles

razor blades will make the pain go

monkey bars and a swingset

pop a bar or percocet

we never remember how many days go by

or when the child inside us started to die

it’s not definitive, it’s foggy and gray

but we all seemed to put our toys away

vivid visions of santa, fairies and easter bunnies

turn to banter because you’re married and have no money

the child in all of us is still alive

but it’s getting harder and harder each day to find

hide and go seek but no ones looking

they’re too busy paying bills or cooking

the youth we clung on to is dying to survive

but it’s getting harder and harder to simply revive
