🩷/🩵 I often envision shuzumi partaking in European lifestyle cliches after their idol careers end. Point here being that drinking wine with meals is a cultural cornerstone in many European countries, including France. (Drinking age is also 18 in France fwiw) So in my hc, Shu has made an effort to develop a taste for fine wine out of respect for Parisian culture.

He is also a massive lightweight.

Shu's words start to slur after a single glass. Two glasses and he shows signs of physical impairment. He is comedically bad at holding his drink, but once his sense deserts him he will continue to sip and pretentiously rave about flavor profiles and tanins while grand gesturing with his glass until he's tactfully cut off.

When Shu is drunk with an Izumi he's in love with, he'll get clingy and mopey. Wrap his arms around Izumi's waist and press his forehead into his shoulder like a child that's too shy to face the world. Clingy because his affectionate urges are no longer inhibited by common sense but mopey because he can feel he's gone too far and will pay the consequences tomorrow.

His inebriated body feels heavy and icky, but by a stroke of luck, the noble knight he trusts with his heart is here with him. He can trust Izumi with everything that troubles him, even this self inflicted ickiness. A little closeness to his sworn knight eases every ache. If only the entire annoying world would just go away, so he could have Izumi all to himself until he's feeling better.

Izumi thinks he's adorable when he gets like this, especially when the clinginess lasts until they go to sleep.

On the other hand, my hc Izumi has never had alcohol before getting together with Shu. He just sees booze as wasted calories.

That changes on a date in Paris with Shu. Izumi's sourpuss attitude wants to hate Paris on instinct. He doesn't feel any affection for Florence, he just wants to find international success to become a household name — but Paris is the City of Love, and in his core, Izumi is a hopeless romantic.

He is also sharing it with the odd yet brilliant artist he's developed an obsession grade love for. In the early stages of their relationship, Shu's boundless love for the city that's become his safe haven is a point of petty jealousy for Izumi. Shu professes his love for Paris far easier than he expresses romantic affection for his partner. That makes Izumi want to hate Paris even more.

But even if Izumi maintains a jaded exterior, his hidden heart still yearns for love above all else. The City of Love makes a beautiful backdrop for their budding romance. It wins Izumi over, slowly but surely, until he finds his own affection for the place where their love starts to bloom. It's easy to love Paris in earnest when he makes any effort to see it through Shu's eyes.

Then their date lands them in a classy French restaurant, and Shu asks Izumi what wine he'd like with dinner. Izumi is shocked to learn Shu drinks, and admits he's never tried any wine before. Shu raves about how wine is an essential component in French culinary culture and Izumi simply must try some~!

It's obviously important to him.

Shu behaves a lot different in Paris then he acts in Japan. He's comfortable in his own skin, and happier too. This side of him that's only free in Paris is even more beautiful than the repressed and bitter form Izumi has already fallen for. Parisian Shu seems worldly, wise, and charming.

For the first time ever, Izumi worries that Shu is the one who's out of his league.

Izumi suddenly finds himself more down bad than ever. He has a single prominent priority — meeting Shu's lofty expectations. Enjoying their date is even more important than a few extra calories. Even more important than modeling.

Love matters most.

So Izumi voluntarily enjoys himself. They share a bottle of wine together, until they're both pink cheeked and moony eyed. Izumi adjusts his diet to account for date night wine shared with Shu going forward, because their time together is more important. He always let's Shu choose the vintage and nods along to his subsequent lecture about his selection.

Izumi does have a much more standard alcohol tolerance though. When he starts to feel physically woozy that's a coal mine canary signal to make sure Shu isn't still drinking, lest they both face the consequences for his over indulgence.

Izumi doesn't like to get wasted, his decision making can be.............. questionable....... sometimes even when he's sober. He doesn't like making a fool of himself either. The only time he'll go hard is when he's feeling deep in despair for some reason, and like nothing matters anyway. He usually matches Shu's 2 glasses until he's feeling pleasantly buzzed and Shu is loopy and clinging to him.
