Kind of just wanted to make a list of positive/interesting things we got from this storyline. Was it a perfect story? No, far from it. But since toxic positivity has become my brand, I figured I'd try and put this together.
We got Robron working as a team.
We got Aaron learning to be secure in Robert's love for him and being so confident in it.
We got Aaron coming out of his John fog and becoming more himself again and getting his fight back.
We got Robron getting back together.
Not only getting back together but the fact that this story kind of forced them into doing it in fits and starts and secretly, it might be the closest thing to a slow burn they ever could have done with them.
We got another attempt at an affair.
We learned they're absolutely failures at having an affair or secret relationship because they can't stop basically being married or stay away from each other or refrain from kissing in public.
We got them basically living together and being married because it's all they want.
We got them sharing a robe.
We got plenty of cute little scenes of them being obsessed with each other.
We got Robert stealing Aaron's toast. (that was for me haha)
Also for me was Robert wearing the flannel shirt multiple times.
We got some version of a Robert in prison story. (it may not have been the serious ptsd story we wanted but they still told us and showed us more than we knew before and had him open up to Aaron and Vic)
We got a little bit of Robron fighting in the fight outside the pub.
We got callbacks to Robert's wedding speech.
We got Robron kissing on another one of their wedding days to someone else.
We got a "you know, I know".
We got a mutual I love you and finally an I love you from Aaron.
We got Aaron initiating an affair.
We got Aaron walking Robert to his vow renewal.
We got Robert finally being vulnerable enough to ask for Aaron because he needed him.
We got Robert starting his appeal to get back to Aaron.
We got an explanation for why he didn't appeal the first time it was brought up.
We got Aaron's poor almost step dad being dragged into their mess and being very entertaining and funny.
We got a fun dynamic with Claudette, Kev and Charles.
We got an interesting new dynamic for Robert in a relationship with Kev. (I wish they had delved into it far more than they did but I do think there was something fascinating about seeing him with Kev in the village and seeing him let Kev take the lead and doing a lot of placating)
We got Robert caring about another person and having real feelings (even if they were somewhat manipulated) but still choosing Aaron.
Post prison episode, we got a much more vulnerable Robert who was willing to be less in control and defer to Aaron making plans and just generally letting that post prison side of him show more in that he's got a lot more anxiety and doesn't always have it together. I think that's been a interesting little new thing for robron and a little bit of a nice role reversal.
We did get some kind of hostage situation with Robron and Robert did technically get hurt.
We got Robert jumping in front of a sword for Aaron.
We got them just wanting to be together and doing whatever it takes to achieve that, Liam's sanity be damned. Haha.
ETA: We got a little bit of Chas and Robert scheming and Chas back being supportive of them.
So no, not a perfect story but what we got out of it and the fact that it kept them on screen for the past two months fairly consistently, does make me appreciate this story.
