To clarify the difference between the terms "Hispanic" and "Latino": Hispanic countries can trace back their history at some point to Spain, in which case Brazil is not a Hispanic country. Latino/a refers to a person from Latin America, a region of the Western Hemisphere where Romance languages are primarily spoken. In that case, Latino doesn't apply to Spaniards but does apply to Brazilians. Neither term has a racial basis, which is why on government forms there is a box in the race and ethnicity section that says 'White, not Hispanic or Latino'.

May El-Khalil gave a speech in Scotland in June about the Beirut Marathon. The marathon started in 2003 and last year 30,000 people participated. People regardless of religion, gender, and nationality can take part.

In 1805 Sidi Soliman Mellimelli, an envoy from the bey of Tunis, was spending 6 months in Washington and arrived during Ramadan. Jefferson invited the envoy on December 9th for a meal and changed the mealtime from the usual 3:30 to sunset to accommodate Mellimelli, marking the first iftar at the White House.
