TO PREFACE, I’m agnostic but am super into the Bible/Christianity in an academic/historical sense, so this movie was just the most pleasant surprise

so I went to see Wake Up Dead Man a few hours ago and I have More Than One thought

-When it first started, I wasn’t expecting the setting to be a Catholic Church (I had intentionally gone in entirely blind ((Damascus lol)) and hadn’t seen any trailers)

-Having been brought up Catholic (and in a particularly hard-core church) I felt really immersed in the world of the story because all of the little details and stuff that rang true

-I also liked how the movie wasn’t necessarily saying that having faith was bad but rather that some people use faith to take advantage of others and bring about hatred and hurt instead of love

-I’m trying to say it as a whole felt respectful to everyone — unbelievers and the faithful alike

-DETAILS THAT I LOVED:

-Martha being named Martha; the entire movie something was bugging me at the back of my mind about her name, and later I googled if there was a Martha in the Bible. How could I forget?? She was one of Lazarus’s sisters, as in the guy that Jesus rose from the dead.

-speaking of rising from the dead— I WAS NOT EXPECTING IT TO TURN INTO A HORROR MOVIE FOR LIKE 10 MINUTES?? I may or may not have been sunk as far into my seat as physically possible for the entire duration of that part but I do think it really added to the movie

-me and my bestie were like freaking out the entire time

-I will also say that I clocked Martha as a mastermind or something in the first 10 minutes, sorry but extremely devout old lady who’s in charge of running the church with just That Vibe definitely is capable of some kind of heinous act

-I also liked how by now the audience, having seen the other 2 knives out movies, would be expecting the previous patterns of how the mystery Goes with Benoit Blanc, but then it intentionally went out of its way to kiiind of break the fourth wall acknowledging the pattern and then doing something different

-like THATS how you do a 3rd movie
